I will be starting up with Roehl on 23 June. I have my CDL already so it's oreintation then the 2 training cycles. I'm out of Minneapolis and chose Midwest Regional, Flatbed. Now I've heard some good and bad with flatbedding. I chose it since it's 2 cents more a mile and I don't mind hard dirty work since I'm coming from the construction industry. Is any body out there working this area for Roehl? I can still call my recruiter and change what I want to do since Mnpls. is in need of drivers. My recruiter, Amanda, initially offered me van but I said I'll take flatbed since I'm a glutten for punishment. I also see in construction that as soon as the flatbed driver shows up, he gets unloaded; quickly. Am I on the right track, or did I make a rookie call?:biggrin_2556: Thanks for any info!

You should be fine if that is really what you want to do. If you want to change to van later, I'm sure it'll be no problem. Roehl is one of the best companies, so I'm sure they'll work with you. You're definitely making the best choice in outfits, so you're doing good. If you're just starting out, you don't know how good you have it now. It takes a bad company to appreciate a good one.

Just take my word for it--you could do a LOT worse as far as companies go.

    Best of luck.

    Kam,
Congrats on the hire. Can I ask how long it took from the time you applied until you heard anything? I just applied a couple days ago and Im just wondering how long they take. Im right now in southern WY but Im from MN and am trying to get back there if possible and I figured I would move if Roehl hired me...probably to St. Cloud so I could drive their regional for blume. I dont have any experience so I would have to go through their program...but Im wondering if they will even look at my app since I have a WY address.

Ziggy, with most companies Roehl should have your app. looked at within 24 hours. My app. was not filled out right since I am a contractor and simply put down my local. They needed the names and numbers of ALL the places I contracted for. I suppose there are many things that can slow up a responce from a carrier. Call thier number and you will be promted on a recording for application follow up. A recruiter will talk to you and tell you what's up with your app. They are very good at answering questions. They will put apps. with questions on the back burner I think.

    Tip, thanks for the info!:biggrin_255:

Hey Ziggy, I had to bang out that responce quick so here's a little more. Go to Roehl's web site. There you will find info on Roehl's training classes. You don't need a CDL, they will train you. Also, I don't know about your hiring area but that could delay an answer if your out of their area. Just call them and give them the scoop and they'll be cool with that I'm sure. Recruiters are a trucking comanies human recources and sales roled into one and they've got to cut through alot of apps. during thier day. If your apps. a little off, they may put yours aside and answer the easy ones first (guys with spotless records and easily trackable work history) and then deal with the apps. that are incomplete like mine was (TMC flat out did not want to deal with my screwed up application!). But no sweat, if you call them, they'll be happy you did and get you squared away! Let me know what happens and maybe see you on the road.

Hey Tip, if you happen to venture back into this thread I'd like to say thanks for the info. It was this Forum that guided me to Roehl and not some crummy outfit with a fancy boshure! BTW, I have a bet with my wife on your Avitar. I say he was a Cuban rebel, disitant who was assanited. His name was Tito and he was just before Castro took power. Am I right or do I owe the wife dinner. She says it's one of the Bee Gees.:biggrin_25523:

    Kam,
Thanks for the replies...Ill give them a call tomorrow. I did check out their webpage and I called and talked to a couple of recruiters.

I liked their hometime plus program...and that would allow me to live further north which I would like actually...but then Id have to drive 150 miles to the terminal to pick up the truck and then Id be sharing it with other drivers, not sure if Im a fan of that or not.

So I looked and called with them, they dont have anything available in the Fargo area so ew played with some zip codes and I could work out of St. Cloud and drive regional for Blume. Would like to be home more but what can I do? Im a teacher (or at least was, lol)...and I don't like the idea of leaving the profession..but I think I need a short break...hopefully it won't hurt me if I decide to go back.
