I ran into the same thing 35 in the academy class and at the end of the first week they had weeded out 20 people they dismissed me on the day i was going to get my cdl for my DWI that I had told them about on the app and they told me before I came up there since my driving record was spotless except for the dwi they could make an exception and train me to drive for them

get everything in writing, recruiters are in the sales biz, they are paid commission, they are known to lie, whatever the company.

Lie??? Maybe intentionally give misleading, factually incorrect and not completely accurate answers... but lie? Never!

I just signed a lease with stevens, crunched numbers for about 2 weeks and the numbers told me I could make better money as a lease operator. I am not a huge fan of the administration at stevens and a lot of the policys that they have in place. But as far as the drivers go there isnt a better bunch of guys and gals that will attempt to help you out any way they can. The training pay sucks, but what you get out of the training far outweighs the negative. Everyone whines about the shuttle and the hotel accomodations. It is what you make it, there is a shuttle service you can pay to use if you dont want to be crammed in with 20 other people like sardines on th shuttle to get to and from the yard. The hotel is only temporary, once you get your own truck you can stay in your truck if you so choose while on the yard. The only time I use the hotel is if my truck is going to be in the shop longer than a day. No stevns is not an ideal company to work for and by far not one you want to retire from. As far as training, I feel that stevens does have the best training out there based on talking to other drivers/companies and watching those drivers in the truck stops. As far as equipment, its the same equipment as most other companies, just a different color wrapper. The training wheels never come off at stevens, its all about safety. Do your job in a safe and efficient manner, and youll survive your first year or two in the industry with a clean DAC and be able to open those other doors down the road for better paying and better home time jobs. Oh yes forgot to mention, since I have been solo I have been able to get by my house on average about once every 2 to 3 weeks for either a break or reset, only once have I taken home time. But then again I live in Colorado so lots of freight shifts up to there. I am not a recruiter so lets not even go there.

    Emulsified and Corporal_Clegg Thank this.
