Well after hours and hours and hours of researching, I found 2 companies willing to hire me as I only have CDL permit. Swift and CRE. Both said they can start my training on the 26th. With CRE they are offering free classes, but after reading posts, it looks like I wouldn't make any money at all. So it looks like Swift is the lesser of the 2 evils. I just need somewhere to get my foot in the door for a year or 2 of XP, and then go from there.

Question 1.) Anyone else starting in TN on 26th?

Question 2.) Am I making the right decision of Swift over CRE? Nothing is set in stone yet, but heavily leaning towards swift after CRE reviews.

I started with CRE, I'm with Swift now. I made money with CRE, but it takes a lot of extranous work. It's eaiser to make money with Swift.

Thank you for your feedback. As someone completely new to this line of work it's comforting hearing someone who's been to both, and can compare. I tried googling a VS but no usable results.

Husband started jan 9. He has had some great moments and some not so great but he is having fun. I love how excited he gets when he talks about what he is doing. The money starts out slow but we know it will come. Best wishes to you.

Thanks. I've been enjoying your posts about him waiting in TX, and applying to live there lol. I want to earn money, but am also in it to have fun as well. I was always told find something you enjoy doing, and then get paid doing it.

Do you know if the trucks have WiFi in them for laptops, or we need to use truckstops wifi, or buy a wifi card for our laptops. Just wondering how to use the internet when on the road. I attend online college and would like to do that for an hour or so before my naps.

Also, Generally I don't care how long I am out for. Could be out for 6 months and not care about being home, but I have an event that I already paid $1200 for from Oct 4th to 14th. Do you think they would let me off for that time?

No wifi in the trucks as of now. They say there are plans to do that sometime in the future. Until then use an air card, some rest areas, and most truck stops have service.

You can purchase a 1 year subsciption at TA/Petro for $150/yr and also $150/yr at the Pilot/Flying J. Aircard will more than likely cost you about $50/mo, and only 5GB usage per month. Personally, I have all three. The t/s is for when I know that I am going to be down for some time, then unlimited downloads and Hulu on the computer, the air card for all other places in the country.

As far as that home time, as long as they know at least a few weeks in advance, yes, but you will have to turn your truck in for that long of time. They are fairly east to work with as far as home time, at least in my experience here.

Yeah I figured there'd be wifi at truckstops. I know a lot of gas stations and places have them free. My wife works for Sheetz (big gas station in NE) and they offer free WiFI. And Most Mcdonalds offer Free Wifi now too. I was looking at verizon's prepaid aircard and it's $80 for 5gb. With credit, and owing them money I'd have to get prepaid, but for $80/month would be worth it to keep going to online college. Just wondering how much bandwidth It would take for seminars. The classes uploading files are small, and I only need to log on 3 times a week to each for a few minutes. But twice a week, one at 7p.m. Sun and one at 9 p.m. Thur I have to log in for an hour. I am wondering how easy it'll be to schedule my "10 hour downtime" to work around that time. If not they have "alternative" which is 2-5 page papers to type. Which is doable, but easier to sit there and pretend your listening :)

I'll look into the Pilot and Petro ones. I have 6 more weeks of class this term, then a week off before next 10 weeks. So I figure I have 3 weeks of hotels coming up, I'll try to get most of the 6 weeks done in the 3 weeks, then I can see how scheduling goes and if it'll be doable or not. Other than the seminars, I think I'll be ok. I am 3/4th way to bachelors with Master's on my mind next for computer Science. Not sure if I want to do computers, but figure I am this far might as well finish what I started.

Thanks for the tips though. My hardest part is everytime I go in Pilot or such I find some gadget I like and buy.
