I don’t think a company would choose to let drivers sit. It’s not cost effective. When I sit for a long time I blame incompetence in the planners. Or maybe they have too much on their plate..It’s aggravating but don’t let your mind play tricks on you. If they didn’t want you they wouldn’t waste time tip-toing around hoping you will get some kind of message. They could fire any time they want, bring up safety issues, etc. sitting happens, don’t trip.

My time at mega companies was wasted years.
Your just a number.
Dispatcher has too many drivers..about 3 days from now theyll realize they forgot about you.

Maryland ruled against EcKmiller in my case that a Employer is not allowed to short a drivers pay or create a situation in which a driver cannot meet basic human needs and be in ready to work when dispatched. If that driver has sat for a long time say 2 weeks with no work, that driver now has no money, no food etc essentially starved out. Maryland cited two specific court cases in industry in case history within our Courts in their ruling against this company.
As a direct result of this judgement and awarding me of backpay, unemployment and so on by the Dept of Labor in my State, two things that company proceeded to do. Blacklist me, and discontinue hiring anyone from Maryland.
A careful check of the Blacklist Laws in the USA show that as long that employer does NOT put it into writing as per Indiana law (Verbal on phone only to any and all my potential trucking employers I apply to...) it is legal for this outfit to say I am BL. But they cannot and must not ever be caught having that in writing when I check the information used by a prospective employer in making a hire or no hire decision.
Other states handle BL situations differently. Some do not allow it at all in the trucking industry, others DO allow some form provided its verbal only or in writing only within the state of their HQ address.
That company did do some damage against me in the remaining years of my work as a trucker making sure I did not haul any more steel as a flatbedder with a few simple words on the phone.
Now that time has passed so many years they cease to matter. Hireright and DAC (Which was trashed as well during that year after the award to me) is by law cleaned off in 7 to 10 years. It's been well over 20.
If I was by some miracle fixed medically which is a real possibility depending on a pending MRI in a few weeks time along with two specific medical diagnostic procedures for the first time in my life by doctors intent on fixing me rather than push pills... I will go back into the industry on a 9 month experiment via SSA's program and that particular company and all other companies will never be mentioned in my work history. Which essentially says I am a medical patient for 15 years with a dab of foreman and driver work at a auction house going back that far. That satisfies the employment gaps.
It would not be too difficult once the CDL and all of that is resettled I will be back to McKesson running more million dollar loads as I was before out of Memphis. I would look forward to it because I will be retiring at 62 and have videos going up here to match.
I have had some difficult people today on the forums, they have been settled.
As far as this topic of starving drivers out, I have finished explaining what happened with one particular company and how it resolved that year. It's so long ago as to be ancient history. But keep in mind, should I ever catch them writing that down to another prospective employer I can go to Indiana and show in court that this company broke their own state laws related to BK and protections of employees and themselves. A 'crappy week' and you're being starved out? Slow your rebellion and dont jump ship just yet. Call your travel agent and talk with him. Ask him what's going on with freight. Tell us what he says.
See, some times things can happen in the office that we dont know. Had it happen to me when I was a company schmuck. Got stuck out in Winnemucca and was wondering what the deal was. Called the travel agent and he told me that Safety had me on hold and wouldn't allow me to be dispatched. I asked why. He didn't know. He gave me the number to Safety and I called them and the safetyman told me that I wasn't supposed to know about this, but they had a hidden policy to limit their drivers to 13000 miles in 30 days and I had went over their limit by a couple thousand. "Really?"
I was pissed. I sat in Winnemucca for a few days until their "month" ended. I understand why they do what they do, but I had never dropped the ball and they're taking me out of the game! In freakin Winnemucca! Well, that actually became my goal every month...to get put on safety hold because of mileage. If I got safetyhold, I had a good month.
The other thing that could possibly be happening, IF you are a good, solid driver...they have an important load coming down the line and they want an A Game driver to pull it and you're it. The sucky thing about it is, they cant tell you otherwise they will have to pay you detention.
Anyways, if you have been doing well at that company, with the exception of this week, dont jump ship. Don't even consider jumping ship just yet. Talk with your travel agent and tell us what he says (that means you will have to listen carefully) and we can all figure out what's really going on.
