Hi, I have a strange question. Today was my first day at the swift academy in San Antonio. They noticed the state of Texas DPS, in mistake, issued me a Class A CDL instead of a learner's permit. I think they got confused with my class B that I already had. Now the Academy instructors are telling me I have to retake all of my tests for my endorsements and everything. Of which, I have all minus school bus. As you may know, you must drive a bus, for the Passenger endorsement, of which I would most likely not be able to retake due to not having access to a bus. They said for me to be ready to retake them all on monday which I'm not sure I can handle all in 1 day. What scares me too is the thought of paying another $150 to get all the endorsements redone.
Has anyone heard of this or experienced?
I'd greatly appreciate the advice or your thoughts.
Thanks,
Sail
State issued class A license on accident, vs learners permit.

Well it sounds as if it was their mistake. Shouldn't they be the ones to pay or at least reimburse you for their mistake?

Who is telling you that you have to re-test Swift or DPS? If it's Swift's Academy Instructors, I personally would have to tell them that I would like a chance to talk to DPS first. Then I would take the wrong permit back and have it corrected. It really sounds to me like they would rather rush you through orientation rather then do whats best for you. The endorsements that you have now are very much an asset to you and if you were to lose them because they want to rush you through training, well that would be a disservice to you.
Now if it's DPS telling you that you have to re-test on everything. (Which i really find it hard to think that they would do this) Then you have two options. Re-test or call an attorney.
If it is Swift that told you to re-test and you tell them that you would like to straighten this out yourself they might pressure you and even might tell you that you won't be hired because you will hold up your training. Well again you will have two choices. Re-test or walk. Myself the choice would be the latter of the two. But this will all depend on your own situation.
Pride don't pay the bills.
Good Luck and keep us posted!!!! -
It was swift telling me the information. Another thing though its with the swift schedule they don't provide time to go get it fixed. I would walk but I really want to . I really really want to get into trucking. I don't know where to turn for company sponsored training as I never heard back from roehl or millis. I do have a totally clean record and have taken the hazmat test and should pass the background check no problem.

I'm still trying to figure out how Swift noticed this, instead of you. Are you saying you received your "permit", didn't look at it and showed it to Swift and they said "Yo, this is a CDL, not a permit....WTF". And said CDL has no endorsements.

The paper is basically the same. No I got a full license instead of a learners permit. I know I didin't catch the lofs thing missing. The are both called temporary permits here aparently which I didn't know. A person who was in a class ahead of mine when they cauht it. I asked the instructor about it after it was brought to my attention.

Then SS the dillema you are in is a tough decision that you have to make. Maybe tommorow morning you can call the two other companies to check on your apps. See what they say and make your decision from there.
I also would like to say that if you do choose to retake your tests and stay with Swift that you could have done a lot worse with other companies.
From what I read on this Forum and other Drivers that I have talked to. They aren't a bad company to work for.
Again, Good Luck!!!
