I'm ALL for truck-only lanes as long as they are in the LEFT lane and NOT the right so truckers aren't stuck up against the darn on-ramps where every prick and his brother is trying to get on/off the freeway. Also, truckers should NOT be "stuck" in that lane and must have an "out" to be safe.

It's about time that states are considering truck only routes! I bet these roads will flow more smoothly than the regular lanes. Of course there will be a large toll involved. We don't get anything cheap.

hope the swifty's will follow with an increase in governed speed as well

Does it say anything about considering what the speed limit could be?
-
I LIKE this idea! But here's a dumb blonde question for y'all....
Who's gonna pay for the truckers to use these roads? The company? or are you gonna be stuck footin yet another bill? Seems to me that they should not be toll roads. Don't we pay enough in taxes already?

These truck lanes will come at the cost of Private funding (toll roads). Can't say I am very thrilled about that.
As for the speed limits, probably wont matter within the next couple years because we probably are not far off from mandatory speed regulation. Not thrilled about that either, as all that will bring about is trucks spending 10 minutes dangerously passing other trucks with the only thing creating a difference in speed being tire wear and load weight. -
There would probably be separate four lane roads for trucks with very limited exits, kind of a reverse of the express lanes around Chicago land where only cars are allowed on them. There would still be reduced speeds for trucks on regular mixed traffic Interstates in most areas. It makes sense in the high traffic areas, but I like better what they did with the Borman Expressway in northwest Indiana and are doing on Interstates in Chicago where off ramps become off and on allowing lane changes to clear traffic wanting off or getting on more easily than the tight loops that are used most places.

I think rather than spending a big effort and a ton of money putting things like this together, States should simply put more efforts into enforcing traffic laws.
Watch the high traffic ramps - When a four wheeler comes flying down it, with the driver talking on the cell phone, and unsafely merging into traffic, write a ticket. When an idiot goes from one of the left lanes over to exit ramp in 0.3 seconds, cutting off traffic, write a ticket.
Stop tailgaters - When people do it, write tickets. And truck drivers are just as guilty of this one. Irritates me to no end watching a truck driver trying to intimidate a 4 wheeler into moving over by riding their bumper. These people need their CDL's taken from them.
We constantly pass laws, or come up with expensive plans like this to make things safer on the road, when all that needs to be done is have the current laws enforced. When people have to start riding the bus to work because their license has been suspended, they will learn to drive like a respectable human being. -
It's might be a good idea for urban areas, but it would be useless in rural areas where the interstate is a 4-lane road. It would be especially useless in the rural western U.S., since in a few places (one stretch on I80 east in Nevada is like this) trucks basically have to use a certain lane anyways.
