Up until recently I hardly ever had to give much thought to running just over weight. But my new gig has me pulling some loads on a 4 tractor with a 4 axle step. Like today, I moved a 100k pound mill roll. Of course a phone call to the permit office answered my question and I was on my way. I wish states would make rules clearer with just over weight loads.

I run'em anyway. I run the beacon lights too. Better safe than sorry. I only rarely get just over weight though.

I took a 85k pound mill roll to Arkansas last week and ran signage and beacons beyond Ohio.noluck Thanks this. -

On a similar note, my son was politely told in Wyoming today NOT to run beacons and rear trailer warning lights during the day on OS unless in construction area, or running at night. We, and many others have been running them for years. Time to read the permit again!

There are some areas that will ticket for beacons on when not required.

Ontario. Permit says beacons shall not be on unless escort vehicle is required. Plus imo... having them on when not required just makes the driver look incompetent.

I agree with not running signs and beacons when they are not required, and in Ohio if they catch you with your signs on an you're empty they'll write you a ticket. But I was unaware that anywhere had a law against running your lights. I usually don't run my lights until I'm at least over 10 feet wide.
