Is there any way to reduce/eliminate the electrical noise from high tension power lines, without having to turn the squelch up all of the time? The needle on my meter goes from all of the way left, to past center when i have to go past those blasted lines. There are some I have to go past frequently (sometimes multiple time in a day), and it is VERY annoying. The wires in question are coming straight off of a sub-station. Never used to do it. They changed something in the past yr or so. I know it isn't just my truck or radio. It does in all of our trucks (various brands of trucks and radios).

Same goes for the factory AM/FM/CD head unit. It is picking it up as well. I listen to a lot of talk radio on the AM side, and the static there is getting VERY old as well. :biggrin_25516:

Any ideas? I know there are noise filters out there for the antenna side. I just don't want to throw money out there needlessly, if they won't do what I want.

that is the responsibility of the power company that owns the lines to keep them from making noise. call them and have every one that passes them to call in also the more they have call in the more it will do. If you get no help call FCC and give them the location of the station they will investigate and get it fixed.

What kind of radio you running? Sounds like your running an export because all my exports are bad about this. There is no cure for it.

Funny thing is, take you a florescent light bulb, and walk under some powerlines, the big powerlines. Watch what happens ;)

Like I said, all of our radios do it. Mostly Cobra radios in the trucks. Have an old 40 channel from Sears in one of them and does it as well. My Magnum hates it the worst. It doesn't like the florescent light that is in the sleeper, either. LOL

The light will light up all by its self with no cords attached,, also hold that same light up to your cb antenna and key the mic it will do the same thing,, light up all by its self. Have fun....

Yeah, CB is AM (amplitude modulation) and bad connections and that sort put out in the amplitude. I get that in different places all over town, depending where the leaks are, but since I pass right by, it's no bother. Seems like it's mostly near intersections where I hear it.
What I really hate is when the ground noise is real high, because it's constant.

The intersections that use LED's in the lights, are always bad, especially the blinking lights
