Just wanted to get your take on CB radio usage these days. Do most drivers still use it? Maybe people arent chatting, but have it on in the background? Have most moved away from it?

I used to be a CB radio nut about 25 years ago. Had a stellar base station set up as well as a good mobile set up. I finally decided to ditch office work and get my CDL now that I am in my forties and recently bought a new Galaxy 959 for my car (... mid life crisis??). I was kind of shocked to find even channel 19 with almost no traffic throughout most of Illinois. Is it the same across the country? Maybe I have just caught it during dead times.

My cheap K30 mag mount antenna had coax problems, and was thinking about replacing the antenna with something nicer. Wondering if it is worth investing more money into it if no one is on the radio. So, what's your take? Do people still use it to chat?

Here in eastern wyoming and western nebraska it's pretty much silent unless you say hello to someone you know personally or give a heads up to other drivers about dot setting up portable stations or troopers on the road. Almost all ag and cattle trucks around here do have their CBs on though.

I can't speak for everyone, but I hear folk on the radio every day during my commute to and from work.

Not as many in the Dallas area as there use to be, but when skip starts rolling in, it's a whole new ball game...

When skips rolling, it's just like stepping back in time to the 70's the channels are so crowded...Just have to be on the radio at the right time...

    Wrong channel for California.
Channel 15 from Castaic scales to route 46 then channel 17 north of route 46 to the canadian border.
Channel 19 is only east west traffic.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.
