    Yeah, that's a good point.

I miss the chatter. Seems as though it would be good to break the boredom and loneliness that some drivers feel. I guess we still have sites like these and YouTube, etc. I miss just being able to pick up the mic and join in on a random conversation. I am surprised that there isnt some CB radio app for your smartphone.

If you see a mega company driver, there is no need to say a thing on the radio. I guess there corporate policies prevent drivers from having radios. There could be a roadside bomb laying in the road and all you can do is smile and wave as you pass by him

wow, no CBs in mega carriers? That sucks. Especially since CBs are exempted from all of the handheld device and distracted driving laws. As a rookie myself, I am trying to join as "un-mega" of a carrier as I can. Thinking Roehl. They aren't small, but it seems like they don't operate like a mega.

I worked for a mega for 4 years. Hardly any of those drivers had a radio on, but there was no policy forbidding it.

We use 'em every day, all day. I haul frac sand. If you don't have a radio, you have a tough time getting loaded, finding locations, and finding out where to unload. Phones don't work in a lot of the places we go.

Kind of hard to get up some of those lease roads without a radio.

You do know why usage is down, right?
We used to need them to break up the boredom. And since all the trucks were going somewhere close to the speed limit of double-nickel, we tracked bears and had convoys.
But today's truckin, every one is going is fast as they can get away with or as fast as the company let's them go. They are no more set speeds so it is a free for all out there.
You're lucky today if you get a response to "you missed me,driver".

If you are looking for a small mega company, try Jim Palmer.I was there for awhile (15 years) made good money. Then they sold it to Wil Trans, who pulls only PrimeTrailers, and that's where the disagreement started.
We all had CB's and were a happy crowd. Small enough that if we passed each other, you better say HOWDY, or you get reported to the dispatch.
