This is a pretty useless thread...so you didn't like working as a company driver so you left and obtained a new job making more money and you lived happily ever after.
To post a noninflammatory thread about the woes of company driving is fine...but you have drug this out for 12, 13 pages now? It's really not that big of a deal, and I understand you are trying to warn new drivers...but company driving is what newbs must do, is it not? So then to constantly bash them accomplishes one of two things;
1. Potential driver is dissuaded from becoming a driver. This may save him/her from a lot of headaches or it may pull them away from a career that may be enjoyable and profitable for the person.
2. Nothing, the potential driver will go and work for the company because they don't really have any other options (or they don't know their options), and they will either agree with you, quit and find a new job in our out of the transportation industry. Or, they will disagree and be perfectly happy, at least short-term, while working for said company.
So...the general disadvantages for company seem to pretty well known among all transportation professionals, whether they be drivers, brokers, TCs or whatever else, so to trash a company that really didn't do anything WRONG (You just don't like the restrictions and/or policies) accomplishes nothing.

Do the words 98% driver turnover rate mean anything to you "flagwavers"?
It amuses me when some of you go the "driver's fault, not the company's", route. The only faults that a driver for all the mega carriers really has is the simple fact that they drive for a mega in the first place. Bottom line; Conway Truckload and ALL the other mega carriers are nothing more than substandard sweatshops whose company practices are no longer regulated by anyone or any entity (although the megas will try to convince you otherwise); hence the total disregard for driver's wellbeing; while at the same time, company executives are all raking in record profits.
Now I'm not including DOT regulations here; which only exist to control the actual truck movement on the highways which are mainly vehicle (even though a driver is involved) issues.
Also, to anyone that has been misinformed that they are somehow obligated to work for the mega carriers when they first start out, please reconsider. True, the megas have pretty much (and unfortunately) got quite a monopoly going in regards to available positions, as has been their goal. However, there are other positions available; you just will have to make some effort to find them. The internet is a very useful tool when searching for a driver position.
Remember the three characteristics of the "Defenders of the Mega Carriers" in these posts:
#1. Totally ignorant
#2. Total denial
#3. Are actually posting false, positive information with the expectation of some form of compensation.
Feel free to please go to any truck stop and personally speak with as many drivers as possible; ask them as many questions as you are able. Get the word out!
Have a nice day!Last edited: Apr 15, 2013

Far from ignorant, I've forgotten more about this business, inside the office and on the road, than you know.
In denial, what could i possibly be in denial about.
My posts are both positive, and negative.
I only speak the truth.
I am only paid for the work I do, not the words i type.
if i was a paid poster, i would have far better grammar and verbage.
But then, they will let any nit wit play on the internet.
Typically its the only voice some have, most certain would not speak face to face with other folks that way.
The power behind being anonymous.
That is the truth, I speak. -
It's usually the ones with little to no experience who like to ##### about how much they are not making. 400-550 is about average for someone with 2 years exp. spend some more time behind the wheel before you think your worth the big money.
