Spent a weekend in Monroe N.C. just outside of Charlotte
Small fuel stop, lot was full of the white Volvo guys greasing and cleaning their trucks all weekend. Globs of grease all over the parking lot. The guys spoke English well enough but always had other guys doing their negotiating. I felt bad for them, they putting up all the risk, somebody else profiting off them. Of course when you talked to them they said they knew what they were doing.

Well I'm a " white Volvo guy " . Been reading this forum for a while . Getting tired of this white Volvo guys #### . First of all it's kind of racist and second we do know what we are doing . Most of us at least . Most of the young Russians , Ukrainian guys you see ( not necessarily out of Chicago ) are ex students or graduates in their home countries.
We are smart enough to be successful owner ops .
Do you truly believe you can find better loads negotiating out of your truck ? Rather then a dedicated person in the office with hundreds of direct customers and/or brokers ?

Short answer yes. Read this forum, not everyone is going to tell you how to because everyone don't know. Example follow Rolling Coal. He speaks with wisdom back by experience. He knows what he can do and does it to the best of his ability. He knows he is a valuable asset to the brokers he works with, all in the spot market. I am a hot shot guy and he drives a dry van, but his principals and logic applies to the both of us. There are many guys on here that you can learn from.

Now that I think of it, if I am now mistaken Rolling Coal knows a guy from Eastern Europe doing exactly what he does, and how he does it. If he sees this post he might confirm.

I've been thru this . I'm independent for almost 2 years now. I tried to dispatch myself out of my truck . It's exhausting. Trust me . It takes time to find reliable customers with consistent freight . Even then it's next to impossible to find consistent freight from A to B and back . Especially spot market lol Spot market implies scanning load board 24/7 if you wanna get a good load . You can't do it while driving . Most of the Chicago eastern europian outfits charge 10 percent for dispatch services and they take care of all the paperwork ( including ifta permits insurance BOLs invoices etc) it's not that bad compare to American Megas with their leasing programs . Which is just slavery .

I do it every day self dispatching booking spot loads. Been doing it almost 6 years now 100% brokered freight reefer, dry van, and power only. My buddy is eastern Euro lives in Chicago. He does it too. I know off hand at least a half dozen o/o who dispatch themselves from the cab of their truck. And really it's not such a big deal as you make it out to be. Just takes time and effort. You have to know the areas you run in and know them very well.

Several of us guys share good market info and pass around rate cons. I see what some of these dispatch services talk about as good rates on social media. Ridiculous. I'll run circles around any of them and do it on better rates too. My buddies will too. Nobody has more to lose or gain than me with my business. Some guys can't do it. That doesn't mean everyone can't... it's a skill, not everyone gets it. You may think that arrogant, but really it's just the truth.
