I am a new driver in Washington State. I've been doing local driving for a pretty small outfit for 8 months now, and things are slow.... Pay is low, hours have plummeted. Yesterday, by accident, I texted a wrong number and got the owner of one of the most Elite trucking companies in my area and ended up talking with this guy awhile. He just offered to bring me on with his company making DOUBLE the $$$ I'm making now plus they have awesome Peterbuilt trucks. The problem is... I would be running to Seattle and back over I-90 pass everyday. I drive like a champ... Locally. I'm driving my first year in snow right now... Not used to throwing iron.... Driving grades. So, my question is.... Should I stay with 1 company for 1-2 years then move on... Get my experience then move up, or take this golden opportunity and white knuckle it??? Help!

Throwing chain on and off every day kinda sucks but if you do it a lot I guess it becomes normal. Driving in the snow with chain is pretty easy. Just putting them on and off sucks. It they are lose you can throw them off. Plus you get wet putting them on. If you do it lots you would have it down to a since and probably won't get to wet or get dirty.

If you chain up daily you'll learn to be quick with it, and just pu a set of waterproof coveralls.
If you can double your pay go for it, no reason to stay.

Well since you short on details, why are you asking us?

How do you know you will make double? Is it for sure or just a possibility? If so why are you questioning?

Yeah. I'd make sure everything the guy promised was on the up n up. All things being equal, jump for the opportunity to better your driving skills and your paycheck.

Chaining ain't nothin' but a thang. Just another driving skill you'll get better at with experience. Dress warm and dry, keep your head on the grades. You'll do fine.

    Good luck. Enjoy that raise.

Just accidentally texted a random number that happened to be the owner of "the ELITE trucking company in your area" and got offered a 100% raise? Yeah, that happens often. Lol

I would say the 8 months exp you have now is enough exp to start this other company.Ask the boss if you can go with a driver for a week to learn the ropes.
