wonderig if anybody can help me out . I was getting a loud popping noise on my front end suspensionr (I think), every time I turn left or right when I’m loaded . They told me It was my bushing and pins on leaf spring. It’s on a tandem dump truck . My question is how do you know if spring bushing and pins are worn. A guy told me it was worn because the washer between spring and shackle is loose? I swapped out rear leaf spring pin and bushing as well as the hanger on once side of the front suspension but the same washer that was loose it’s still loose? Any ideas. Thank you

I have put a bottle jack between frame and spring and checked for slack. The rear part is the only one i see wear. Also check centerline of pin to the spring eye or shackle, some will look noticeably off center from worm bushings.

What kind of truck are we working on?

If they're popping, then they're worn. Get a spring shop to look at it. They'll tell you whether they're worn enough to need replacement. They'll pop for a long time before they get bad enough to need replacement.

The pop on a Pete is usually the spring slapping the side bars. Pete has selective fit washers that you shim the side bars to give 0.010 clearance between spring and side bars. Big C clamp helps with the job.

On one side between spring and shackle i can move washer it has some play even after I replaced bushings so I’m guessing I have to add shims on that side that’s loose ? -

Hortons are good for over the road tractors that are greased religiously, not dump trucks. Washers should rotate. Need 0.010 on each side for grease to purge. Shackle pins and bushings take a beating in dump trucks
