    Used to be a way that the driver could voluntarily pull in and show the scale personnel the problem and they would write up the company and see that it got fixed.

    Now, if the driver comes in and shows it to you, it is charged against the driver for 3 years and only 2 to the company. After all, the driver drove it in.

    So, it no longer is a way for the driver to protect anyone except to get screwed either way.

    What Roadmedic said. If an inspection is written up, the drivers name is going to show up on it, because the truck didn't just show up by itself at the scale. Now the driver is being punished worse than the company for trying to get the company to fix a problem with the truck.
