steering shaft

    I have an 04 International 8600 series.I need to know if the steering shaft has the u-joint built into it from the shaft to the steering column.Are is it a separate part?

    I'm pretty sure you can replace the u joints if you get a good parts guy at the dealer he can get you the joints if not pull the shaft and take it to your local napa or car quest if they got anyone old skool or with a brain they can match them up

    Thanks truckmechanic. One last question what keeps the steering shaft from moving around. is it just a u joint are something else.

    Do you mean keeps it straight there is a bearing I'm the lower aide of the firewall that holds the end of the colum in place

    where the steering shaft goes in to the firewall it's lose. I can move it some so was needing to know what part to order before I broke it down to fix.

    There is a bearing just go to the dealer or call them and have them fax a blow up of the colum so you can see what is in there and order it before you tear it down
