When backing up, sometimes I need to turn the wheel all the way to its limit where it doesn't turn anymore. Will this cause any future problems?

Not unless you are holding it against the stops and building pressure.

    Not really.

The truck is factory built to accept (OR any vehicle rather...) stop to stop manuvering where the tire in OEM issued size will clear everything inside the fenderwell and next to frame etc.

It is very very common to go against a stop or both stops in working a trailer or tip toeing a big rig around something.

What you must not do is these...

    Force the steering wheel further.

Force the truck forward when wheels are stopped over. If you slip that front end you can tear it. It's actually delicate.

Slam the wheel against the stops. You will wear em down.

    and so on.

DO put a tape with wheel straight forward in the top center so that when you turn that thing, you know exactly where you are and how much more you can get out of it before hitting a stop.

ALWAYS keep that 5th wheel greased. It could be your life or property if it is allowed to dry out and take away your ability to steer in the rain or snow etc. It will simply oversteer like a mutha.

You can turn it until you hit the stops, just quit turning it when you feel it hit, the truck will be long since worn out before the stops have a problem. Even if the stops are removed it doesn't hurt anything, except it can and will rub the pitman arm, which is a dot violation itself.

Once you can't turn the wheel anymore, just pull it back the other way slightly. If you hold it on the end of travel it is possible you could run the hydraulics in the steering system over relief and that generates a ton of heat.
