I think you are mistaken,i i know people who are felons who have TWIC cards and Haz-Mat. Pretty sure you can get a passport too, although even with a passport you won't be able to get into Canada. Even if you have a DUI you can not get into Canada.

Some felony offenses can be allowed in Canada.............for a price. Crossing into Canada is about money when it gets to this point......lots of paperwork, some $$ and you can cross..........some for a year, some for a lesser time period. At the NH/VT crossings lots of people do it daily for work, family, etc............I know of several where their employer had to go to a hearing with Canadian customs people; pay the money etc and got a yearly pass. Laws change all the time though!

If the felony is less than 5 years old you will probably have a difficult time finding a carrier that will hire you. Some won't hire a felon unless it is at least 10 years old. If you have kept your CDL current and have a clean mvr you might check some of the smaller carriers. They are often more flexible when it comes to a criminal past. The large carriers are usually much more rigid in their requirements. You could check the company listings on this forum as well as some of the other trucking sites, such as www.classadrivers.com. The minimum hiring requirements are usually listed as well as their requirement on felonies.

Depending on the conviction, all you can do is talk to them and be honest.

Being that it is a DRUG conviction that is just as bad as a DUI in a lot of carriers minds...the last thing they want is someone moving drugs in their equipment...you might want to look into trying to purchacse your own truck and obtain your own authority until you reach the 7 year mark

Good luck, I don't know a single carrier that will hire or lease on a driver with a felony drug conviction. Worse than a DUI for the safety dept stand point and I know you will not be able to get a TWIC, passport or even a handgun permit. Sucks you screwed up, but you made the wrong choice and it has consequences. Sorry man

Like i said earlier depending on your conviction date,i personally know people who have TWIC cards and Passports. I'm talking about people with 1st degree felonies. Also these people either are or have worked for some of the Brand name carriers. If it is fairly recent then the big boys probably won't touch you for a few years. There are smaller outfits that probably won't care.

u right; i'm working for one now. only reason i haven't left them is cause i have ok insurance with them. i was convicted in 08 so not alot of carriers want to talk to me but there are a few who have & don't mind the conviction, so they say, they just want me to have a TWIC
