My step son has talked about getting his CDL.I think his biggest problem is he just got his driving licences 2 years ago.He is 22,real dad never helped him. Will a company hire with just 2 years driving a car??Or should he wait another year then go to school for his CDL.No tickets and accidents in those 2 years.

Should be fine. Long as he has clean background and dmv I don't see why not.

Tell him go for it then. It's better he goes to a reg drivin school first. So he not under a contract. What state does he live in?

Most carriers won't hire drivers who are not at least 23 years old, primarily for insurance reasons. Before moving forward, you may want to check that out beforehand. If he will be 23 when he graduates, it may be a non issue. You don't want to spend that much money without knowing that you can find a job. There is a short life between the time when a student goes through CDL school, gets their license and gets their first driving position.

You'll find a couple threads for JCC in the Truck Driving Schools section. There's also the one on US70 right there around the Garner/Raleigh line, but JCC would probably be less expensive.

Him not being 23 should not be an issue since his background and mvr is clear. He should try to find a smaller company that will actually give him great training and treat him with respect. Hope all goes well and keep us updated!

Have your stepson join this forum and do a lot of research . Best to avoid the large carriers with 100% turnover . When a carrier with 4,000 drivers doesn't increase its fleet size but has to hire 4,000 new drivers a year something is wrong .
    Getting paid $300 -$400 a week for 4 to 6 weeks 70 hours a week with a trainer is wrong .
Some people like being away from home and only being home 2 or 3 days a week . OTR requires that . There are better options .
