That is a metallurgy issue. Wonder if Cummins sources that part from China??? Or mills the part here using China steel?

Finally got it back. Bill was $6450 over here. That's a lot better than where I started. Got a load tomorrow morning and get out of here.

Salesman at the truck dealer texted me and my new truck arrived this evening. Should be ready to go by the time I get to Arkansas next week.

I drove a '07 379 with a isx 870 or 871 in it that had only 350,000 on it when they replaced the cam. I asked to look at it and they asked " which one?" they had 6 cams in the shop they had replaced. All of them had lobes that had grooves worn into them. Some were almost 1/8" deep. I was told that was those series(870, 871) engines. I have a 2250 in my Pete and they said that the 2250 and 2350 have much better cams in them. The metal for the older ones was china metal and too soft, My old job was all Petes and KW's and the cummins were going through cams like crazy.
I hope it's true about better cams in the newer engines. I don't want to deal with that issue right now.

Mine is a 2250. The guy there said the problem isn't the cam itself but the EGR and what it does to the oil. The trash in the oil eats away at the motors. I have an oil bypass system waiting on me in Arkansas for the new truck to avoid this in the future. A full flow filter only is not enough on these new motors. The bypass system I went with has 98.7% efficiency down to 2 microns, a full flow is around 37-39 microns. The one I bought from Amsoil was 350.00 and the filters for it are about 50.00 and you change it every 90k miles. Uses their largest filter they call the Ea120.

That's my opinion. I bought it before all this happened. There are a lot of bypass systems out there. I went with Amsoil because because it was the simplest system and they publish their efficiency number. There are some that make claims about their filtration but don't tell you the efficiency number. The Amsoil is just one filter and a couple lines and attaches to the frame rail with a J bracket. And, you only change it every 90k. Increases your oil capacity by a gallon.

I'm a firm believer in the amsoil. I like simple and effective. Big believer in the kiss system.

I've got an amsoil bypass system on my pickup truck using the Ea120 filter. I need to put one on my semi.
