It started off that way. Seems to be fine now. It had window motors go out, causing the windows to fall all the way down and not go up, a clutch that won’t stay adjusted, really bad fuel mileage, and now, the problem is the result of a simple wheel seal that Summit messed up resulting in an axle failure. They paid for the first one but the guy that put the new spindle on didn’t do it correctly. It’s broke down in PA right now waiting on the axle surgeon to do the same job the last guy did 6 weeks ago. Also needed a new fan clutch. I can’t keep this thing on the road.

Even with all these problems, I’m still making money on the truck. The driver is averaging 6600.00 a month in gross pay. However, he doesn’t feel he’s paid enough to be away from home so he took a job for a guy that’s paying him on a 1099, running paper logs, and an old truck, hauling cars. He’ll be leaving around the 21rst. I’ve had issues out of him and the truck on a regular basis. I’ve got a buyer for both the truck and trailer and I’ll be taking a loss on it just to get rid of it. Go back to one truck and trailer and I’ve learned my lesson.

$6600 a month and he still not satisfied? Maybe it is a good thing you're getting rid of Him... He is in for a rude awakening

Yep. I think it’s actualy 6589.00 it averages out to but I’m calling it 6600. I tried to hire another guy and he didn’t want it because the new truck was going to be an auto and he didn’t like the color. Turned down 6600.00 a month over that. It’s ridiculous.

Friend of mine had three trucks, drove one himself. Had his uncle in one and a new driver on the other. His uncle finally retired, was a real good driver, so he sold that truck after months of not being able to find anyone worth a dam to put in it. All he does is ##### about the driver in his other truck. Sure seems like way to much headache for me.

I'll tell you what man, there is no way in heck I'd add any additional trucks (drivers) to my one man dog & pony show.

Believe me, if I wanted to, I could too. Dealing with whining, un-dependable truck drivers as employees, is something I'm just not into at my age ;-)

I'll agree with everyone's posts so far. But anytime you have employee's it's a head ache. I've got three trucks now adding a fourth very soon, I've been very lucky with the drivers I have now they are the rare finds, great guys who care about their job and trucks. They average 6k a month but home daily (flatbed). The new truck will be out weekly so I'll see how it goes. (prior to the guys I have now) I had a driver just quit on me with loaded trailers (drop and hook daily) same lane working four days a week to go work for U.S., that lasted three weeks then he jumped to JB. I couldn't believe it, actually still can't. But you know the saying, "you can't fix stupid". Unfortunately there is a lot of "stupid" in our industry.

Stupidity runs in this industry. I had dedicated route open , day shift, home every night, no more than 9 hrs a day and people were more interested im what kind of truck it is than actual job. Jeez
