This month has been a little tough but I put together a loop from TX to MN for mediocre money, from MN to MA for a huge rate, and a short run from MA to MD for a nice rate. I’ll end the month at just over 19k in revenue and 1.99 a mile on all miles, and 15% empty miles.
The broker I pull for 90% of the time is starting to struggle. Tyson told him they barely have loads to cover their own trucks right now. I’ll probably be getting on the board a lot more for a little while until things improve. The Tyson loads I’ve done this month aren’t paying much right now.
Their stuff out of Arkansas is still decent but I told him I can’t do the backhauls for what they’re paying.

I had a talk with a senior account manager for a large brokerage house the other day. He told me their company has pulled back from bidding on and procuring large blocks of freight buys during contract season, which they in turn sell. They got KILLED in the fall of 2017 and 2018, so much so, their current strategy is to operate mostly as a go between between the customer and the carrier. Mark it up with a reasonable % and call it macaroni.
Midwest Trucker and RStewart Thank this. -
Tangents aside, glad to see you're doing well and playing things smartly, @Misesian. I always enjoy reading you guys' owner/operator threads because it gives me a better understanding of your guys' side of the market. So, thanks!SoDel, Dave_in_AZ, Midwest Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
