I use to be a company driver for central refrigerated for a little over a year but stopped driver to take advantage of my gibill from the military (use or lose it). Was going to go lease with them. Fropm what I learned from L/O there, they were leasing the truck and buying the tripak with payments on top of the lease.

I did have to stop at places and pu pallets but didn't happen often.

believe it or not but I was using a Tom Tom. It worked but I always backed it up with the atlas.

I will have my AS degree in accounting in april and planning on moving to Dallas (rockwall county) and am leaning towards the alliance program. I really miss the road.

I will have a year and a half of not being behind the wheel and need to find out if they will require me to go thru class again.

Thanks for your posts, interesting reading.

Dingy, why are you posting here? I doubt Stevens is your 'favorite' trucking company so your negative rants belong on the 'bad' trucking company thread. Just thought I would help you out understanding how this all works.

To some people, life is all about money...Dingy is one of them... although I still think he is unemployed.

To others, like me it is doing what you enjoy, and being happy with what you have.

Radar, You have been out of trucking too long, won't have to do classes, but you will have to go out with a trainer.

Its a rare thing but I think you are mistaken. From my understanding, without experience driving in the last 6 months, he Will have to do the classes again.

Emulsified will know.. but if he has a valid CDL, and verifiable experience, all he has to do is pass the skills test during O1, and go out with the trainers. All 8 weeks. I think that is what emulsified did.

When I decided to come back to trucking, I had been out for 17 months. Every company I talked with required me to go to truck driving school with a minimum of 160 hours.
Since I already had my CDL, I didn't have to test out for that.
Stevens required me to go thru the entire O1,O2, Grad program.
Of other companies I spoke with, May, Watkins, Crete, Schnieder, Schaeffer and Central required it also.
This was after more than 30 years driving with more than 4million accident and ticket free miles.
Most companies cite insurance company requirements.

Miles Ran, 3159 another good week

    Miles paid, 2716

Miles yet to be paid, 2172

Started this week out arriving in Keasbey NJ, ahead of the storm, for my Tuesday morning appt. Checked in with the guard, and found out this place is first come first serve by check in time, regardless of your appointment. Tuesday morning at 3am, I am called to a door, and at 6 am, my appointment time I am empty and back in the staging area. No pre planned load, but the other Alliance driver there has a load. He talked my ear off about how he is making no money, always in the hole, can't get any miles....

Come 8:30 dallas time, beep, load assignment, picking up in Hershey PA, delivery to Ogden UT, for Sunday. Works with my hours. Grab a bite to eat off the local roach coach, hot food, and get ready to depart. The other alliance driver had been there since the night before also. He is still there, even though he already had a load assignment, Picking up in Palmyra PA. No wonder he isn't getting any miles.

I head over to Hershey, a quick 3 hour drive, pick up my loaded trailer, and head down the road to the J in Carlisle PA. Get a shower, and wait out the storm that is rolling in. I have 5 days to do 2000 miles. Get up on Wed, and see the storm has passed, gonna run into some snow and wind in somerset PA, but nothing to cause any problems. Run the toll roads all the way to Lake point IL, and except for Cleveland, the going was clear. From Lake point, I run to Council bluffs IA... short days for me, but with my hours, it is all I can do. See that I am going to be able to deliver on Saturday, and inform my DM. Hershey is a drop and hook. Make it to Laramie WY on Friday, and see that Elk mountain is blowing hard. Normal January. Sat, wind is still howling, but away I go. Some blowing snow, but having lived in the area all my life, I just slowed down, and made it across..

Pulled into Hershey at 2pm, dropped my load, got an empty, as I was picking up a meat load on sunday in Salt lake city. Over to the J, to wait until Sunday at 10 am to get loaded. No way I can make the delivery in Mccarren NV Walmart on Monday 2am.. I only have 8.5 hours on my log book. I inform dispatch, but it falls on deaf ears. Pick the load up, at noon I am rolling, send in my running late message, and repower request, nothing. Stop in Wells NV, and call meat dispatch, and get told he will get back to me. NOthing again. Stop at the TA in Mill City NV, where I am out of hours, send another running late, repower request, nothing... Send a new ETA of 0400, which I can do with a split sleeper berth.

And so ends another adventuresome week.

i have just applied to stevens and hoping that i get the opportunity to run with them. i am just curious to where the truck gets parked when i would take home time. i have ample space to park it in my driveway since it is around 1/8th mile long. or would i have to leave it at a yard

As a company driver you will not be able to take your truck home. You will have to park it at the nearest Kenworth, Peterbilt, or ThermoKing Dealership.

    Good Luck.
