You can do a lot worse than Stevens! Stevens is great to start out and even still good if you want to lease and or train. Go with Stevens and get a solid two years in and then make up your mind as to what you want to do with your career.
I can vouch for the OP, he is not a recruiter and seems like a great guy. Don't throw stones at others just because you couldn't hack it.

    TLeaHeart Thanks this.

Been reading the various posts in this tread with great interest. I am currently retired from a job of 30 years and looking to becoming a truck driver as I enjoy driving. I plan to attend a driving school on my own in Louisiana and hope to become employed with Stevens. Once the schooling is complete and employed with Stevens, will I be routed to Dallas for further driving training or is there an alternative location (perhaps Houston) for this purpose.:biggrin_25514:

Since you are going to school first, which is what I did, you will arrive in dallas on sat to start orientation on sunday and be assigned a trainer on thursday to begin your 5 weeks of driving with a trainer.

Only terminal is dallas and that is where everything happens

    To TLeaHeart,
Thanks for the quick reply and keep those post coming. PS- How hard it would be for getting home time in Louisiana with Stevens as an OTR driver? I generally would like returning home every three to four weeks.:biggrin_25514:

Home time is 4 to 5 weeks, and it does depend on where in Louisiana you live. I don't run the I 10 corridor much so I can't be much help.

They have several things on the 10 corridor in LA. Walmart, there's something else in Roberts, and there is always the hot repower spot in Hammond, la at the petro. You won't have many problems getting home.

Thanks for the info DUJO. I took time out to speak to a couple of drivers at the TA stop in Lafayette. Both were Stevens drivers who were real courteous in answering questions from a potential newbie. Nothing is perfect in a career (my last 30 years is proof of that) but with an empty nest and boredom and a love for driving, I believe I am catching white line fever.:biggrin_25514:
