I think the whole point of theirs is to make sure I was taking care of an invalid mother and not a mommie's boy who lived with momsie and didn't work, you know what I mean? But they could have taken care of this as long as two months ago instead of waiting until Christmas Eve and delaying my training assignment.
No biggie I guess though. Just an extra couple of days of vacation time.

Smokr, Stevens did the EXACT SAME thing to a woman I went through trucking school with. It was almost the same thing, however, she was caring for her father. Before they would accept her she had to get letters from her late father's doctor. I don't know how the situation ended with stevens. She was talking of moving to Indiana and trying other companies. Stevens must have a reason ffor doing this. Maybee it has to do with post 9\11 security.

This has more to do with insurance requirements, and loan repayments than anything else. Since you show such low income for a valid reason, Stevens has to underwrite your loan to pay for the schooling, and they want to be sure that if you do not full fill your obligation, that you will have a source of income to repay the expense of your schooling.

The insurance looks at as are you a lazy bum, with high health risks, and higher chances of getting into a accident.

Now they could cover all this before you got there, but it would slow down the whole process for more students than it would help. It will show your character to them if you provide the information they are requesting, and it backs what you have told them.

Alot of what Stevens does makes no sense while you are doing it, but alot of it has to do with them making a judgment of your character and do they want to entrust you with a $200,000 vehicle, and loads with values up to $1 million dollars.

It seems to me almost everything they do is insurance related or required by the insurance company. It truly is CYA in this business.

I wish my trainer was on the same page as you. My first day of training he told me the only time we use the clutch in this truck is when we stop. It has been a little over a week and I am still having some trouble downshifting. Before I went out I was able to downshift just fine using a clutch.

I can not agree with what you are saying! The time to find out if they want to trust you with their truck is before they let you take time out of your life, go through their schooling with the understanding that if you complete their training, there is a job waiting for you.

The bottom line is that they did not want to do the right thing.

Good ethical companies ask all the questions up front, get all the information before they get you to sign on the dotted line to be in debt to them, and then deny you the very means to pay it back.:biggrin_25513:

I am not saying that Stevens is not a good company to work for.
I am a student and have not worked for any trucking company.

But I have been a manager and I can tell you that I never treated anyone like that.

That is why they have the reputation that they do.

A lot of times when you see trucks parked in places that look impossible to get to at truck stops, they got there before anyone parked in places next to or in front of it, therefore it was much less impossible when they got there....not that it IS impossible, but it sure LOOKS it when you're new!

I always take pull thrus when they are available. so much easier than backign in. I usually back up a couple of times to get myself perfectly straight though

Then they should discuss that and settle any concerns they have before they clear you to begin schooling.

It would only slow down for those they have such concerns about. Anyone else it would not affect in any way.
If they are worried about me having a source of income to repay the loan, they screwed themselves in taking me in, as I said in the phone interviews and on the application, that job is G-O-N-E. I was replaced with a computer. I won't have that job if I go back, and the entire county had double digit unemployment for the last couple of years, and had the highest unemployment in the entire state for more than one month last year at about 15%. The ONLY means I could have of repaying the loan is Stevens hiring me, or my going to another company to drive for them.

They are free to make that determination at any time they want to do so, but to throw a stupid roadblock like this out in front of you on the afternoon before Christmas Eve and your graduation, on a day when you can't get through to most offices as they've left early for the holidays, is ridiculous and rather ignorant. The CSR/Lead Recruiter said it was all about the income numbers. Not whether it was the right thing to do about my mother, or about living with her or not, but only about how much I made. If that number was a problem, they should have said so during the phone interviews two months ago. I could have faxed or mailed any number of documents verifying mom's condition and my position being her primary care giver at that time easily. But now I'm over a thousand miles from those papers which are in a locked firebox inside a locked footlocker inside a locked storage facility, and I have all three keys and the access card. :biggrin_25516:
Not to mention I threw many of them away after mom's passing as I had no idea I would ever need to prove why I lived with her. :biggrin_25513:
But frankly, I'll call her doctor and her lawyer, and if they aren't willing or legally able to send out a form or paperwork that will satisfy this mystery man in Safety, he can chew my shorts and I'll tell the recruiter from Werner to send me that bus ticket to their depot near my home and off I'll go. His email says he is going to call Stevens tomorrow to verify my situation as it is, and I emailed back that is fine with me. He is sure they can put me on a training truck almost the moment I hit the depot, though I might have to take a road test first. At least with Werner I can have my little dog with me on the truck.
I wanted Stevens first, and I'm thrilled I got their schooling, but if they can't settle a concern they have in the two months they've had to do so, or even mention it to me, that isn't a very good reflection on their administrative capabilities, now is it?

    Hey Smokr,
I sure hate all this is happening to you as you were as motivated to drive with Stevens as I was. I tend to wonder if they don't have other unknown stipulations that they fail to tell you even if you work this out. You might go out with your trainer then come back to go solo and have to jump through more hoops. If you do have to go with Werner feel free to know it's a large Warner yard right off of I20 and Lancaster in Dallas. They might ask you to go there because that is only a few miles from where you are. If you need anything Smokr let me know I live here in Dallas. Frankly I tired of these companies ####### over there drivers. There is NO REASON to be putting you through this especially if they only knew how much you wanted to work for them. Don't worry though do what you can Monday if it's not enough to please them then #### them and move on and go to Werner, I'm sorry I'm so upset but I've been following you since you started and this is just not right having to sit there not knowing if you have a job or not. Keep us posted even if you have to use your other options and go with Werner. I'll be praying for you ans you situation Smokr. Keep up the good fight because you know what you had to do for your mother and you own NO EXPLANATION to anybody. Also don't even try to justify what Stevens is doing what they are doing because there is absolutely no reason to be putting you through this...
