I'll look into that for sure Nomadbeginner. I still have my current job with the book store, so at least I won't be left "high n dry" if I was to take this course with Stevens.
So Swift or Prime have programs to train someone like me who has no CDL?

I know for sure Swift does, and so does Prime. of course you are required to work for them for a certain amount of times afterwards.
just go check out there websites.

    Good luck and good roads

Uh oh... my BS sensor just went off.
Interesting that in my class there was 57 people who ALREADY had CDL!
    Including 8 experienced drivers.

They had to find something on you from your past dude.
Like DUIs, felonies, violence, you've been fired, and so on.

Dude, why would you have to OWE them something? They have many many other things they can "threat" you with.

And why would they want to "tie you up" for anything anyways?
They have 50+ new students EVERY WEEK to choose from and replace those who didn't fit.
    Don't feel so special dude.

I believe he is referring to the fact that if you go through a company for your training, you are contracted with that company for a year or more, and if you leave before that year, they will make you pay them back for it. By not going through a company school, you are not as tied to or obligated to them.

Nomad ur right here in OR & u hav ur CDL, why havent u tried MAY trucking, they pay $450 a week for trainees & .30 a mile to start? Just Google MAY TRUCKING & u'll get their website.. chk 'em out, what have u got to lose by asking them? They will also reimburse u for your schooling if your hired on!

The daughter is ANGELA, then there's TODD and then there's CLAY, all children of Steve & Carol who are the owners, at least Steve is, I have no clue about Carol. Or at least was when I left the company after working in recruiting, under Angela, and as a dispatcher working under Shelley with whom Clay hired and then moved to the brokerage division. Oh yeah, the stories that could be told...

Of course I understand what he's reffering to.
What escapes my understanding is, why would they treat him different than hundreds of other new students with CDLs and without obligations?
What I'm saying is, there must've been different reason why they didn't want him.
What was it doesn't matter to me a little tiny bit. What makes me mad is when someone making stuff up to make themselves look like "poor little honest hard working driver and that big company was so mean to him...".

There is many REAL things not to like about Stevens I'm sure. No need to make stuff up.

I have read this entire post with all the threads about STEVENS. And if only half of what you say is true concerning orientation, dallas license change, pay back, etc. then whats the use is trying to work for a company like that. AND WHATS WORSE - The guys that get hired by these big companies don't have a chance. I have read almost the same kind of remarks about SWIFT, COVENANT, WERNER, US EXPRESS - these are the so-called "Good Guys" because they will hire you right out of school and train you for 6 to 8 weeks on their dime. Wow - it just hit me - They are not paying out for us they are making money off of us. :biggrin_25510:
