Been reading up on all these post, as I went through the Stevens school and training program and am still with Stevens. Definately the best training in the industry. People need to understand that nothing is free, recruiters MAY say things but lets be honest, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I was not lied to by any recruiter, was told exactly how the program works, and how much Stevens contributes towards my student loan. 3 week course is indeed unpaid, and whatever was financed, was no up front cost to me, and was payroll deducted very failry. Overall great experience with Stevens.

Am not really concerned with the physical however, am looking into the trucking industry. After reading these posts I am a bit confused and concerned by what I see. I was seriously contemplating Stevens, and now am not so sure. Heard a lot of different stories, and read a lot of what is on the website. Live in Denver and wanting to get into the business, any suggestions? For the experienced truckers wether with Stevens or otherwise, is it wise to get a CDL on my own first, or go through their training. I certainly don't want to be stuck somewhere not making any income but, do not want to wait months before getting a paycheck either. Anyone have any honest to goodness ideas??

If you can afford to put yourself thru a certified school, DO IT,
By putting yourself thru school you will not be straped to a company for an entire year... If you can't I suggest going with a good company, that you see a lot of trucks around where you live. Don't just pick a company because of the training. If you pick a company that you only see 1 or 2 trucks a week come by your area, don't expect to get home much.
Right now looking at freight Reefer is moving more then most other items. Stevens is not the worse outfit out there, and they are not the best. The training Stevens offers is accepted by several other companies out there.
Just don't come into trucking expecting a grand world, you will be upset. Good luck on what ever you choose
