Stevens is a good starter company. I have enjoyed my time with them so far,

But a bit of bad news for you. Stevens does have a Pet policy. That policy is ... no pets allowed. Their webpage is a bit outdated if that is where you got the info.

    KCIV104 and bonbonsron Thank this.

Are there any starter companies that will allow a pet without signing a lease that anyone knows of? The reason that it is important to me is not as much the pet coming along as it is my husband coming along eventually. My husband is disabled... terminal to be exact... but he could live several years in the condition he is in. He can walk but spends most of his time in bed. We have lived five years of horror while the medical industry 'practiced' on him and now he just has to live with what they have done to him knowing he will not get better. He loved trucking, I want to get him in a truck with me occasionally BUT he has become ATTACHED to his little Bull Dog. I know I could get him to leave her for a few days but not the number of days that are going to be required for my first few years of trucking. Besides that, he is probably right, the Bull Dog is just as attached to him. I thought Stevens had a pet policy and that was the main reason that I picked them. Swift said I could have one if I took a lease in six months. Maybe it is the same thing with Stevens but I don't know enough about the industry to lease or buy and although my husband owned his own truck years ago he may not be around to help me all of the time. I have checked on health insurance and at my age it would cost almost $600 a month to have it on my own privately and so I really wanted to remain a company driver. Now that I have shared my whole life story here (sorry); does anyone know of a starter company that will train that will allow the Bull Dog occassionally? Are there any owner operators that would hire someone and teach them to drive or is that out of the question? I could even go to trucking school and pay for it on my own if there is a company that would let us, although that is not my first choice... only because I don't want to incur the cost and not be guaranteed a job. Thanks for all of your comments so far.

Do you know if they make any exceptions to their no pet policy? There website says that pets are allowed but a member here said that is outdated and they do not allow pets. Thanks!

Yes, I was trained at the Stevens School to get my CDL. I have been very happy with Stevens. Great training, good miles. The training pay sux, but you know that going in so, cant really complain about it :p

Stevens used to allow pets, but here is an excert from the Driver Manual ...

I do feel for you, but as far as I know there are no exceptions, except those that were grandfathered in under the old policy.

Good luck to you wherever you end up.

I drove for Stevens, they are OK. The trainers sucked but, that is part of the deal.

It's getting harder and harder to find a company that allows pets, much less training companies.
Shippers, especially food companies, are demanding the no pet policy. Most pets I see out on the road belong to O/Os.

I think it will depend on the exact circumstances under which you left. If you did it right and no bridges were burnt then it should be no problem. Did you return the truck to the yard in good condition? Did you leave on good terms with everyone in Dallas? Did you follow policy and protocol with how you quit? You should pick up the phone and ask them.
