So after sitting down with a cpa and an attorney and spending a ton of time working on a business plan and a budget I have come up with an approximate number that i need to run for. At the current cost of fuel im thinking i will need to average 1.75 to 1.80 per mile and run 4200for miles per week (team operation) is that even feasible with leasing to let'ssay someone like mercer or landstar?

    critters Thanks this.

yes,I was leased to Mercer and 90 percent of my loads 1.80 + pm.You need to be practical on where you will not go and things you dont want to do(,like tarping).i had few restrictions and made good money. you will have good and bad with any carrier, but i would highly reccomend Mercer i loved it there, good people they stand behind the drivers and actually care about you and your equipment.your time out and home time lenght is all up to you.great family atmosphere is what i found there. but again you will only get out it what you are willing to in to it.good money and support and feed back to help you achieve your goals the mercer drivers are very informative. good luck.

If you're going to plan for and commit to team operation you have to plan on and consistently run many more miles than 4,200 MPW to keep the two drivers with income needs happy enough to stay unless you're dealing with a married team. Of course this is a good thing for the owner's bottom line but "team miles" are hard to do consistently if you're not with the right company. And longer "team miles freight" often doesn't pay that well. Maybe Mercer or Landstar can run you 5,500 MPW+, maybe they can't. I don't know.

the big question is are you sure you want to run team? that can be very difficult to do.

At this point i would rather stay running as a team. But we dont care what we are pulling and we have no restrictions either.

Mercer does have teams running there, you really need to call the recruiter and talk to them, they are very helpful folks. good luck.

I have, they were just extremely vague about rates.

is that driver pay included in that $1.80 a mile at $.42 a mile with two drivers your only looking at $900 a week per driver on a 4,200/mi week

At mercer everything is posted in money to truck. everyone is kinda tight lipped about rates, ask them if they have a team operation that would be willing to talk to you.I always mercer drivers be helpfull.
