Im still having troubles with my volvo shuting down on the road. Its coming up check cab controller, brakes, and engine at next stop, and the tractor ABS light comes on. then in a few miles it will go off. When the info comes up saying this, it kills the fuel pedal until you let of and get back on it then it works till the info light goes off and it kills the pedal again and you have to pump the pedal again. It will usually only do it during the first 50 miles in the morning after startup and not do it again till the next day. It says the J1939 error and miss comunication but ive checked most of the wires and everything looks good. Whats the chances of it being the ABS module under the cab and how would I know if it is? Sorry for the long post.

Time to spend a few bucks for a Volvo Tech.

I talked to the closest volvo dealer which is 100 miles from me and he said he would just have to do the same thing I am doing and maybe have to put a new wiring harness on it for $4000 which I dont think I need. He said hes worked up bills of $2000 for a broken wire that I could find and fix myself with some time. But I can't find a bad wire anywhere. Also I thought I would add that it seems to only do it pulling a trailer, and ive never had it do it bobtail.

Almost sounds like the engine computer. All kinds of wacky crap starts happening they go out.

ABS controller will not cause these kind of problems.
Check and clean battery wire connections, ground connections expecially chassis grounds. Also replace two external fuses near batterys. Also check and clean wires to computer. Make sure you have a ground from chassis to computer.
Get some dieelectric grease for computer connections.
Wiring problems can be nightmare for even experienced mechanic. -
Actually abs controller will do things like this look under fifth wheel check wires to abs ATF module, they are famous for rubbing under side of Fifthwheel , after u set ur brakes jump out an listen for air leak in that area ) abs module) if u hear leak it is bad an that is your problem

Wow. I've had a bad abs controller for about a year now. Every time I start the truck, it tells me to check the abs brakes but nothing more. Hasn't created any other problem. Yes I have the very slight air leak at the abs module but it has to be very quite around to even hear it. I never have cared for abs brakes so why put money toward it.
But I do hope this corrects your problem. I just can't see how abs would shut the truck off and other things. But hey, I'm learning new things all the time. -
I will check that. Someone told me that all the computers talk to each other and when one goes bad the others may throw a code too. Whats really strange is it only does it for the first 50 miles or so and never do it again the rest of the day. Ive got somewhat used to it but it makes it hard to shift gears in town or something when it happens. I would like to find the problem anyways. thanks

Friggin computers ....
I checked once for fault codes on the dash and were like 6-7 with the same fault. After few days I checked again and was no fault code AT ALL. Where the heck did they go ? I didnt erase anything. After a month same thing. Now I have no codes but who knows ?
Where the heck did the codes go ? A code should stay there untill is manually erased.

It will be in the main computer, but to show on your dash they have to be active. Copy the codes down the next time.
