I called the Prime recruiting line this morning to see if they were accepting students with a CDL permit if they did not have a trainer already. At this time, the recruiter I spoke with said this policy is still in place, but check back occasionally to see if it has changed. I asked if there was a waiting list I could get put on for a trainer and she said there was not.
I will be leaving for VA next weekend to meet up with a friend who is going to put me in his truck (not a Prime driver) and work with me on my backing skills. I am hoping that after a couple of weeks in the truck with him, backing in to every dock and practicing at truck stops every day, I will find out if it is me who "just does not get it" or if it is the training staff at Roadmaster that is the problem. One way or the other, I will prove to myself I can either do it or I can not. I really hope it is the training I have received that is not working...he he he.
This should also be good for me to find out exactly what life is like out there on the road. I really am excited about getting out there and see what it is like. I wish I could do some of the driving, but I will be happy just to find out if I can back.
Thank you to each of you that have been fountains of information here. I have learned a lot from all the reading I have done on this forum and the official Prime site.
Still Not Accepting Students Without a Trainer
