If finding parking today is a challenge, just imagine how difficult it would be to find a spot at the charging station.

Ltl, return to the shed every night type of stuff is about the only place I see electric trucks not being anything but a severe pain in the rectal area.

Right, what happens the first time a newbie runs it all the way down in January and the batteries freeze, or just the tow bill to get it to a charger.

A little hand crank generator under the bunk, that'd work nice, if you can't sleep just crank some juice for a while.

    RSB34 and shatteredsquare Thank this.

Thank you all for your input. I agree with most of what's said. Except the parts about charging stations and costs of charging. I don't think that's how it will go. I think the trailer's and to a small extent the trucks, will be their own charging stations with solar panels along the top and sides. Yes it will add weight and loads will have to be smaller, but would the big companies care? I currently work for Schneider, a company that spends conservatively $67.5M per month on fuel. Even if it takes two trucks, that cost $500,000 each, to deliver the same load of today they are still saving massive amounts of money.

But most of you are right. This is all speculation. I want my freedom. I'll just have to bust my ### and get the #### thing paid off fast.

i don't know why they don't just use traction motors in the hubs and put a 12 liter diesel generator where the engine used to be, like the locomotives. traction motors can BOOGIE

That little bit of area of solar panel isn't going to keep the batteries charged going down the road, and it's dark when you stop, no free juice there. If they could get free "fuel", how would they collect taxes for the roads, they would have to completely restructure IFTA, that's not going to happen over night. Do you know how much the batteries would cost for that thing, I bet they don't last 600k miles before they don't hold enough charge to go anywhere. How long before corrosion from all the salt and crap on the roads corrodes all the wiring and into the motors wrecking those. I haven't seen anywhere what the dry weight is on just the tractor, but between their, was it 4 motors, all their batteries, I see that being 25k or better all on it's own. The whole thing seems like an experiment in throwing money away to me, but what the hell do I know.

Electric trucks are the least of your worries. All you need is a good reliable truck, access to decent paying freight, and a financial cushion in case things don’t go well at the start.

musk is a con artist ...... driverless trucks are in the distant future ..... electric will cost more than diesel. . ... maybe we can power them with wind and solar and charge $15 a mile ...... ever notice the massive amount of high power lines around the wind farms ..... they are invisible I guess
