I was told by my recruiter that comfort zones may or may not be available and that regional drivers are chosen by fleet people at your home terminal. So plan on getting to know who is over that fleet and letting them know you want to be regional.

As for comfort zones, I was in the 910 when I worked for Swift before. Basically east of the Mississippi with no NYC or Northeast. Several times I was sent out of the comfort zone, but they didn't abuse that and I did it willingly. When I return in January I am going all 48 until I can get on a dedicated or regional run.

Just be fully aware that recruiters have nothing to do with determining that. It's up to the folks at terminals over certain fleets. Get to know them and network like crazy.

If what I have been told is wrong, anyone and everyone please feel free to correct me.

    Read my blog.

Perri-Lee: Negative experiences are just as important to hear about as positive. I would like to see what happened in your case. If you would like to start a thread detailing what happened, I would be interested in reading it. I know you don't feel too happy about Swift right now, but try to write your story as objectively as possible, without outright attacks. People should see what is possible on the negative side. But most will discount your experience if all you do is bash the company as a whole. I'll be looking for your thread in the Swift sub forum.

I apply for Swift few months ago but I got a job offer from a local o/o and took that job instead. Now i'm thinking about Swift again but I would hate to sit in oreintation for 3 days so they can just send me home.I read a lot of stories of people going to oreintation only to be send home without being told why.

    Bigarmin,

Contact Kim J out of Phoenix. Ask her if you qualify?? You will take a roadtest to see where you stand and pre-trip evaluation at orientation.

Carhartts, good gloves, cheap work gloves, stocking cap, hand warmers, long johns, good steel toe boots, boot chains for ice and snow, single serve coffee that you pour into hot water, gift cards, smart phone, air card, etc. etc. The list can go on and on. Good luck in school.
