That works too, but that method isn't easily adjustable like a clamp to the return hose. You could also install a manual shutoff valve in the line, then it's fully adjustable. Some drivers would squeeze dents in the hard (steel) return line coming off the rear cylinder head and make it look like an accident happened.

I have also used a temperature sending unit in the plug hole.

Some drivers would break the top end off of a pencil, remove the plug and shove the eraser end in first, install the plug, prime the gear pump and go. Then they would remove it after the trip was over, but sometimes they were tired and forgot, so they got fired for tampering with the equipment!
