Stolen Truck~~ Will it ever be found

I was told international only has 6 different keys. When i drove one, there were 3 times i used my key to help others get into their internationals. It worked every time.

When my 1999 freightliner century was stolen in 2003, what they did is punch the ignition out of the dashboard and unplugged the ignition switch and just plugged theiR own ignition switch in.

 

As annoying as getting replacement chipped keys in automobiles are, it sure beats the alternative. In a lot of ways I'm surprised that method of theft prevention has not caught on in commercial vehicles. As I can get blanks for $5, one cannot convince me that it would be a big deal to trucking companies to get new chipped blanks.

 

Either it will be found within a week to 10 days. Could be faster depends on when someone complains it's been sitting there.

It won't be found, but insurance company will make you wait 30 days. Hope you were not upside down on a loan?

 

Yeah I dont know why the trucking industry still lives in 1980 when it comes to technology. My truck has keyless entry though so that's a step up. I hide a tracker in my truck.

 

Big fleets. Imagine how complex, and expensive it would be to replace $125+ keys, right now they cost $3 for a key. Also, the keyed alike fleets wouldn't be easy with transponder keys.

Also, there are anti-theft regulations for automobiles that do not apply to commercial vehicles, so inless the manufacturers were forced to they won't put the tech into big trucks.

 

I'm going with truck will never be found.

 

If I can buy 2 transponder keys at $5 a key (I just did a few weeks back) then a fleet can afford them in bulk.
The $125 price tag is simply dealer price gouging.

 

Not necessarily, some of the key blanks wholesale for almost the $125 price, not to mention programming. Not all transponder keys can be recoded yourself, manybrequire proprietary software.

Yes, some are cheaper but not all. I am sure the fleets could twist the truck makers arm into using less expensive keys.
