Well guys and girls and I just wanted to share my latest experience with you and share the effects this job has on our bodies. I have been having a bad stomach ache for the last 2 weeks and this past Sun. the pain became to bad for me to tolerate and I went to the E.R. around 3:00 p.m. After a few tests and a catscan the doctor told me my appendix was inflamed and had to be removed immediately so off to emergency surgery I went. The following day (Monday) I was unable to urinate on my own so a Urologist came to the hospital to see what was going on. He asked me a series of questions and said that the medicine i had been given was part of my problem. He then asked what my occupation was and I told him "I am a truck driver". He then gave me a look I will never forget and he said he thinks my bladder has built a memory for not urinating for long periods at a time and this was not good. He even shared with me that he has patients that have driven truck all there lives and are near retirement and there bladders cannot even function anymore because this bad habit of not going to the bathroom when they need to. I am simply sharing this in hopes that more of us will remember that our bodies and health is more important than any shippers freight. Believe me when I tell you I had to get a catheter stuck in me two times while in the hospital on Mon. and I would't wish that onto my worst enemy. B.T.W. he said it is good to go about every 3 hrs. and I know that is hard to do sometimes but take it from my experience it is well worth it, I had to spend and extra day in that hospital until I was able to urinate on my own. I will be off work for about 2 weeks and will get pretty bored so forgive me if I start to post too often on here.

I've been wondering about this lately. If you spend years holding it as long as you can every time, what will this do the bladder or other parts?

It makes "other parts", not work so good...:biggrin_25512:

Hubby has prostate problems now, as a result of "holding" too long.
    Also has ED...

Sorry, ya'll, probably TMI.(too much info)
BUT, the doctor told hubby that these problems are a DIRECT RESULT of not urinating when his bladder told him he should, for YEARS.

I hope you feel better soon. This brings up a real issue in this industry. It seems that even though every one of us will urinate several times each day almost nobody actually plans how to accomplish this so drivers are left to scramble for some spur of the moment ingenuity to get the job done.

Plan for it and equip yourself for this most basic of tasks. Don't wait until the urge is overwhelming to start looking for some barely suitable container in the truck that just might work. In your few calm and unhurried moments plan for this inevitable event and then get the gear you need. Then you won't have accidents when you realize your former styrofoam coffee cup just isn't up to the job. You also won't have to litter the highways and byways with your p-bottles. You can empty them into a toilet later when you arrive at one. You can also re-use the bottle. A small messenger bag or other bag can be used to carry the filled bottles to a toilet without embarrassment. Nobody should have to pick up your discarded bottles because you never thought you might have to take a leak away from a proper bathroom.

There is a world of difference trying to use some left over Mountain Dew bottle and something like a Gatorade 32 or 64 oz bottle or finding you have unexpected company at your hidden spot near the parked truck.

You know Ive been with co drivers that got mad at me whe. I asked them to pull over to piss. I don't need a truck stop. Give me the side of the road and I'm happy.
