Driver comfort is one of the things I look for in a company. I need those apu's, air ride, power inverters, and tilt/telescopic steering wheel to take most of the sting out the fact the drivers in those old pictures were making more money than I will be. Perhaps in a few years or more if I play my cards right I'll be in a better place.

demi that is partly whats wrong with trucking today the trucks are so easy to drive `just about anyone can get them going, you notice i said going and not driven. hell i could change exhaust gaskets on a 903 cummins and i didnt even own one. couple of my buddies did and for some reason the gasket on the driver side always leaked. it was good beer time in the driveway. glad i started when i did, because i know for sure i would not even think about it now. before i retired they had e-logs i just ignored them told the company if you dont like it fire me. b safe out there

I hear ya...I envy real old timers like you for sure. Better time in my opinion. The changes I have seen are many, you have twice the time. The new trucks are "nice" and all, but think it attracts a different person these days. I don't know... when I was bouncing around in the old cab over, I probably would have loved one of these modern trucks, having said that, there is nothing like the old timers and what they went through.

We still run walking beam on 1/2 of our trucks. Now combine that with a spring ride trailer and you have a rough ride even with air ride seats. But you need them with the weights those trucks pull.

A lot of things has come along way since back then but also poor quality.I imagine back then those trks were durable and relyable unlike todays trks.Yes we the drivers are very spoiled with all the added extras we have.I hear drivers complain all the time about this or that. Its like how did those drivers manage back in the 50's.Jakes wasn't even invented then.

They actually worked then, I'm talking using muscles just to drive and keep it rolling. Not like the "easy touch" trucks of today.
