Last week, I had the chance to get a good look at a Cascadia. (Not a Prime rig, tho.) One thing I noticed was that there was a bit of open space between the fuel tank and drive wheels on both sides.
From what I heard, the APU sits in that area on one side, but I was wondering about the feasibility of having a box made that could bolt into that area (between the frame and skirting) with a door on top that would bolt or clamp to the frame (no drilling or welding).
The box would be used mainly to store items used outside of the cab (small grill, charcoal/propane bottles, tools, and the like).
Thoughts?

I don't work for Prime yet ( I have orientation starting Oct. 3rd)....but I think I read on here that the shop will or can install a box in that location....but I think it's for chains? I'm sure someone will chime in that actually knows!!

The detail shop will install a step box for you on the newer tractors. That's about all they have that will fit with the new skirts - it goes on the left, just in front of the drives. The APU is installed on the right. There is also the area underneath your bunk... that you can get into from an external door on the left side of our tractors.
If you want to do something beyond that, you'll need to talk to the detail shop on what they can mount a frame for - and the dimensions of what you might have built. I'm not sure I'd want something with top access... sounds like a nightmare to keep moisture out of. -
i have an 09 cascadia and i love that it doesnt have the skirting got a 60in box on the left and could have one on the right but never looked into it not looking forward to the skirts on tbe newer trucks ill lose that big box

This is just me but I would be sure not to put anything too awful valuable in such a box. Also be sure it has a good lock on it as well. The truckstop vagabonds could easily break into such a thing when you snooze

The step box I have does allow moisture in. There is a rubber seal around the lid but it's not a very snug fit. Adding something around the lid might help, I'm sure some home improvement store would have something for that. Some silicone around the bottom mounting bolts would also help.
Edit: pickup some graphite lube for the lock, or ask for something better. Water gets in the keyhole also. -
Locks only stop honest thieves.

If the thieves really need my extra gallon of windshield washer fluid, partial gallon of oil, partial quart of hub oil, etc - they probably need it more than I do!
