One should never be so broke to not even have at minimum a couple hundred dollars in an emergency fund, or at worst a credit card for issues like this. How broke can you actually be? He was previously employed, how did he get home from that job? If someone is that flat broke why would they not try to seek employment from one of the many companies locally, or at least not halfway across the country.
This could possibly be a great life lesson, swift kick in the keister " An attention getter" time to grow up, accept personal responsibility, stop blaming others for their lack of life skills and financial responsibility. Funny how some of the most hard luck, broke, people have expensive gaming systems, latest I-phoneX, TV's, and every cable/satellite/streaming service.jeff18, hagarcobra, Just passing by and 2 others Thank this. -

Going a little overboard calling the OP's son a liar. If there is one thing I have learned over the past year and a half. There are no lies just "alternative facts". Looks like one of the sons references either screwed him over, or the son did not properly vet his his reference before listing them.
As for he son not having enough money to get home, could be a million reasons as to why he is dead broke.
Seems like OP is just venting, If he were to get 8 family members to chip in $10 a piece probably could get a bus ticket to somewhere closer to home.bryan21384, IluvCATS and Lab work Thank this. -
Is he still there ? Or did he find a way to get home ?

Disclaimer #2: these are not real numbers , but the underlying thoughr is real.
Say the recruiters arrange for 10 "drivers " to attend orientation. Average cost of a one way bus ticket is $50. So far the company has spent $500. Say 7 of the ten actually show up. As long as the "driver" doesn't use the bus ticket, the company can get at least a partial refund, so their cost is down to $350.
Say a background check costs $100. If they ran it on all 10 "drivers" before arriving at orientation the company would have spent $1,000, plus the $350 for the guys who showed up.
If they only run it on the seven who show they only spend $1,200. If they send 2 home for bad backgrounds the company still saves $50.
Thats based on hiring 500 drivers a year. When you hire 5,000 (plus) that's at least $25,000 a year.
Again, I'm not working with real numbers, but even with round trip travel its cheaper for the company to bring guys into oreintation first before starting thr background check. Also, again, I do NOT agree with this philosophy . -
