There is a strange clicking tapping sound coming from somewhere under my side outside the truck. Only hear it when the truck is moving and gets slightly louder when I make a left turn.

I checked all the steer and drive tires to check for any impaled stuck objects. Checked under the truck for dangling loose hoses, wires, belts etc... did air brake test. Checked springs, bolts, etc...tried everything to the best of my knowledge.

Truck runs fine though on the interstate...no shaking or rough handling.

Let me know if you guys have an idea what the problem might be. thanks

Can you only hear it with window down or does noise seem to resonate through firewall?

Does it match road speed or engine rpm? Does the sound fluctuate in and out at given attitude? What year/make truck are we talking about?

    Anything wrapped around drive shaft?

This is a 2016 Volvo vnl 670 Detroit engine. Only hear it with the window down. Seems like it makes a clicking sound with every tire rotation.

Maybe a wheel bearing? I'm not too sure. But hoping I can learn from this.

And you've inspected all tires all the way around for a rock or bolt or piece of tire chain, and found nothing? [which iseems to be the issue based on what I'm reading]

Do you have Cross-Fire system on drives?

Does the sound change upon brake application while still rolling?

Still hear the sound when brakes are applied down the road. I have checked all tires pretty good. Going try and find a way to get under the truck to take a harder look.

Bring it to a shop and have them look at it before you lose a wheel or lose your brakes.

    x1Heavy and rpad139 Thank this.

Ridgeline is right. A shop can jack the truck up and tell if a bearing is loose. Also a loose lug nut will sometime make a tapping sound.

Did you check to make sure the midget mechanic wasn't trapped?
