When Im tarping my tank, I use a 50 foot 1/2" rope and tie a 5 pound ball to it, that way I can get a good swing goin over my head like a cowboy in a rodeo, and let er rip. Sometime I can get it over two trailers at once.

old guys who had a rotator cuff injury , just fold up the excess and give it one good whip and over it goes. but if the load isn't 8 foot tall I can still get over by throwing them and letting unroll, you do what ya got to do.
I been slinging em over for over 30 years, I do look and yell out before I let it rip -
Needed a good laugh! Gives a whole new meaning to the term 'pulling doubles'!

Skateboard, Ive got a bum shoulder also. Some days it's all I can do to shift the truck, let alone throw straps over. On the days it's really bad there is a little truck I learned back from my car crushing teenage years. I carry a tennis ball with a 3/8th inch rope through it, but 25 foot long. Your the other end around the strap hook, toss the ball and walk around and pull it over. That tennis ball is a Hell of a lot easier to toss over than a rolled up strap. Tho if you gotta use 8 or more straps it can add a half hour, so it's just for those days when my body is reminding me just how badly i treated it when I ess younger.dogcatcher and MJ1657 Thank this.

You sound like I feel! While my shoulders aren't in that bad of shape, my knees are shot so tarping is my nemesis! But its good to know there are still some old dogs working it!Working Class Patriot Thanks this.

Hey man, I ain't that #### old! I'm only 36. I was just a little too hard on myself in my early days. Or as my father always said, i was having to much fun.
I hear ya on the knees. When I was 19, I fell off a load of cars early one morning and clipped the rub rail with my left knee on the way down. Pretty sure we all know who won that collision. Worst part was having to lay there for two hours before the truck showed up and was able to help me up and to the phone to call for a ride to the hospital. So later in the morning when word reached the old man what does he have to say? "If you hadn't been in such a hurry to get to that girl last night you wouldnt of been up on that snow covered trailer at 5am all by yourself. Doctor says you're gonna live, we got two trucks waiting so get your ### back to that loader." I loved that old man but he sure was hard sometimes.MJ1657 and dogcatcher Thank this. -
36 is "old".....Especially if you started out young....Like many old hands here did.....
When I worked in construction....One could tell who was a long time Teamster.....The guy walking slow....Bent over....And cursing worse than a drunken sailor...

I know the only stupid question is an unasked question but it's amazing that one actually thought they'd needed to find this answer on a forum. Anyone with basic problem solving skills could just break down his or her question and come up with the answer based on the words in the sentence. Some sample questions could be...
1. What could rub rail possibly mean?
2. What would be the advantages/disadvantages to having your securement device protected by the rub rail?
3. What would be the advantages/disadvantages of having your securement devices over the rub rail?
It's not laziness the reason you see alot of straps over the rub rail, it's pure stupidity. Not calling any one out or being mean just a statement of fact, because how much time or energy can you be saving by not putting straps behind the rub rail. -
You just revived a six year old thread.
