So I am fresh out of school and applied with a company. I went to orientation and took a hair drug screen and a urine. It was super bowl weekend and in a drunken haze of excitement I smoked some of a joint. However I passed the hair drugscreen and they lost the urine for over a week. They then came back and said I failed the test, it was 27ng. It shows on the DAC report I violated company policy however, I passed the one test and even the lab that tested the urine was confused. Am I done trying to get a driving job?

The urine test is the one that counts as the hair folical test isn't recognized by the DOT. You will have a tough time getting a job at major carriers now. But I am not sure your done just yet other people will answer that I am sure...

It takes about 10 days for a drug to enter the hair root and grow enough to be in the sample is why you passed that part. Since the hair test is not DOT authorized and the urine test is the urine test prevails.

I doubt anyone will touch you as far as the mega carriers. About the only way now is to obtain the CDL on your own and maybe a small company might give you a chance. It's a long shot.

Failing a drug test is as bad as vehicle abandonement in this industry. You should have thought twice before taking hits off that joint.

YOU made that choice, knowing the profession YOU want is at stake, yet YOU still made it. For every action there is a re-action, hopefully you learn from YOUR mistakes.

work for companies that don't use or care about DAC. you'll be better off anyways.

better on your DAC then an arrest. then you'd be screwed.

stay away from the megas. they all use dac. stick with the smaller operations.

but if your not going to stay away from drugs. then forget about trucking cuz you can be called for a random ANY time.

I was drunk is no excuse, I think if you had been sober you would have still taken some tokes. This industry does not employ drug users. Clean up your act if this is the industry you want to work in. They even do random screenings......

These threads pop up every week...it amazes me how many people want in this industry but refuse to give up smoking the green stuff.

The thing about that is if you lie on your application and get in a serious accident the lawyers will find out. Then you are really screwed.

Companies are also required to file a MIS (Management Information System) report to the DOT. It's not like the privately run DAC is the only place your drug test are stored. The MRO and the company has to store the results at least 5 years.

Given the historic significance of this Super Bowl I can understand your excitement... a team from Washington State vs a team from Colorado ...

.... but you have now put yourself in a pickle. CondoCruiser laid it out very well, especially the "Return to Duty" requirements. You will have to follow the SAP thing now to be cleared to drive.
