My uncle who started driving in the late 50s would have had a heart attack if I buzzed his truck to 1,800 in the low range. He is also a mechanic.
Honestly, if you let the clutch out when you start out at idle instead of winding it up to 1,400, why you would think that in the next couple of gears you're going to kill your engine if you don't pick up the gear at 1,400?
Struggling in double clutch in lower gears.

Never mind your pointless. You have no idea what I'm talking about and I have no time for this. The Op is trying to learn and your having a battle of whits.
Op, have any questions feel free to PM me.fss99701 Thanks this. -
Anyone who says it's like a car, is a absolute IDIOT. A MORON. This is not a instructor but a DUM DUM.
Now that I got it out of the way, shifting in low range is really tight and rather fast because the ratios favor the engine in pulling. There is not much time to get into the next. If you are slowly shifting the ship has already sailed and you miss it. If you are too fast shifting the next gear has not matched the RPM drop yet. I use my heart rate for that kind of shifting. Its out of gear in one heart beat, nuetral the next and in next one on third. More or less.
Sometimes the truck is on a very slight slope downwards, you might even skip or start off in a higher gear. Sometimes it's uphill. It will feel it.
You have to be fast and accurate. Once that tractor hits 1500 or greater shes already through in that gear, you need to upshift like now. Don't dilly dally. Get it done. -
I just didn't give a crap enough to take the time to try to explain this yet again. You know the daily I need help shifting thread. And everybody's an expert at recommending different things. Lmfao..
NOTE to self don't click on need help shifting threads anymore.....Last edited: Mar 8, 2019
Joetro, 201, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
I double clutch, I am not about to take the time to explain why. Read the eaton operation manuel. I however will take the time to help a new guy learn something.AModelCat, Brettj3876, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this. -
The Fuller Eaton manual might also say wear a straw hat with daisies in it but I'll never know I got better things to do than read a manual on how to shift...
What a different world we live in.Joetro Thanks this. -
I have been a mechanic years longer than a driver. I can not explain the simple theory why all steering wheel holder have a misconception on how to shift. Its pure laziness, plus I sell and install trans and clutches too.
AModelCat and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
Personally I should not be trying to teach someone on company 10 speed boxes. I hate those things. Not enough options in moving the earth as with better transmissions.
fss99701 Thanks this. -
It's why I'm hesitant to even answer these things, making such a darn fuss over shifting the dang truck, GET GOING, ALREADY

When i started driving for my dad it was a new learning curve. Used to never use the clutch but now I double clutch most of the time and same as you we don't lug em below 1400, esp the 93. And never hoss on it in the low side. Trans rated for 1450 and were about 1650-1850
My uncle has ddec4 500 and he takes it up to 2100 every shift. 1.5m still going strong.
Are you running 1702 turbo and a Leon tune?
