My stupid is showing again. I did mean pl259. I was checking continuity between the feed and the shield. I had continuity on both ends. I removed the pl259 and now have an open condition. I assume their was a short in the pl259 connection, otherwise their would still be continuity.

Here's where I'm at. To mount my antenna directly in the center if the roof of my pick-up, I have to contend with raised ribs. I hav e about 2 inches between the ribs front to back. A mount like this would work with the sire antenna, but I'd like to have a 3-4" plate on the bottom of the roof for support, the roof is really flimsy.

How about putting a choke on the coax to keep the return RF inside the shield?

The dc shunt won’t be useful at all if you put that antenna on a mag mount.

Ok, that was the way I interpreted what you were saying. I figured Rabbi was confusing you since he brought up the dc/rf grounding theory. It’s a shame that a 2$ connector damaged your nice expensive radio. That’s where an antenna analyzer is really handy to own. Unfortunately they aren’t cheap, but on the other hand, neither are some of these new radios.

The stainless steel washer that I used is about an inch and a quarter. This is what it looks like from the inside. Since it's a bottom load attached to a flimsy roof it doesn't put much stress on the roof like it would if it was a top load or Center load.

Ya it’s easy to miss something or mis-understand what someone is trying to say on a forum. I’ve done it a few times myself and wind up feeling foolish....lol.

I have a magmount now. I'm planning on drilling a hole when I get everything together. I'm just trying to get everything figured out ahead of time.
