Stuck in a dock...

    Good job on getting out. Looking at your photos there is nothing other then chains or a tow that would get your moving.

    Don't feel a bit ashamed of getting stuck; That is indeed the receiver's responsibility to get that dock clean. I looks like they had it plowed a few days ago and let it ice over without sanding or salting it. They need to fix their problem or not accept freight. It looks like a JCPenney dock? If so there is no chance your will get one of those receiver's out and soil their clothes to do their job.

    You handled it right by contacting the dispatch first before backing into that situation. Just a tip, get the response over the Qualcom to avoid any misunderstandings: service failures or preventables. As such, some of these crappy trucking companies will write you up with a preventable any time a tow is called. Still others will clock you with a service failure for the second stop under these circumstances. No need for you to take someone else's bullet.

    I am not beyond asking for a tow but remember this: If anything happens during a tow, strap breaks, trailer slides into curb, some one slips and falls, then it gets back to the trucking company, many of these crappy companies will not only give you a preventable accident but will fire you. Most of these companies have rules about un-contracted towing. I know it sounds stupid, but there is a lot of liability in trucking and towing.

    Well, if nothing else today of all days I feel as if I've truly earned the moniker of, "Trucker."

    Lots was learned, and there's still more to learn. My parents always taught me that if I #### up, I clean up. If someone else ###### up, then clean up still. They'll owe you one. Besides, what real trucker would just sit there and let their 14 tick away? Not to mention if you let someone else clean you lose the chance to learn new stuff. Best way to know you're alive is to learn something new.

    As as for the duffle bag...well I'm not a serial killer. Maybe a cereal killer...but that's about it. That was just in case the guy giving me a ride had to leave. I didn't want to lug around a 25 pound bag of kitty litter and two gallon bottles of bleach when I needed my arms for balance purposes. I wouldve slung the two handles (one over each shoulder) and used it like a backpack.

    Delivered my last stop and the snow really started to fall. Ran down Tn 8 and Tn 111 to catch i75 south and skip a likely crowded monteagle. Pulled into a Walmart about 3 miles from i75 and the bottom has fallen out. Was fun going down an 8% and two 6% grades in that though...

    And I'll be hounding the Atlanta SNI terminal when I'm back for chains... I'm okay running slow on ice, but I'll draw the line and stop as soon as I have a chance without chains.

    I have been stuck on an inch of ice in the flat asphalt where I park my truck each night.

    I have some old painting tarps that suck under the wheels more easily than chains and don't add any weight to the truck.

    Once you get some chains, and again find yourself in this situation, lay the chains out on the ice first, then back onto them. Or fully chain up.

    I was also going to say use floor mats also that you said the truck does not have any.

    Oh. Did I forget to mention I just sent those receipts through transflo? SNI will reimburse me, and if they don't... Tax deduction. :biggrin_25525:

    Hi Vilhiem, just messin' with ya'. Good job, and yes, some schmo's would just sit there until a tow truck arrived. Not sure if chains would have helped in that situation, unless you had a jack, as you couldn't roll onto them anyway. If it's any consolation, in a few weeks, you won't have to worry about this for another 8 months. Since the the company may or may not recognize this, they rarely do, but you definitely get an "ATTABOY".:thumbup:

    No worries, I figured you were. Should be interesting considering Monday I hafta bump two more docks out in the same vicinity. Fingers crossed that it's all gone or mostly gone!

    Just one of those winter things--has happened to many of us and will again Im sure--lol--lots of good suggestions so far and kudos for all you went thru to rectify the situation
    Couple of other thoughts--can you dump the bags on your tractor--often the xtra wt on your drives with the bags deflated will do the trick---also the rubber backed mats many stores use to wipe your feet on etc..can help--I have set them at the edge of the drives--and wrapped them over the top so as the wheel starts to turn it pulls them down and around--also have used old busted up pallets--wheel starts to spin--pulls hunks of wood under and you can get up over....stay safe
