    Ok....
I'm a rookie on the road with my trainer and we've been stuckin Reno 24hrs + waiting for the passes to clear going west.

My trainer refuses to chain up because he's " not paid to chain". I tend to think we should chain up and get this load through. I'm thinking if I was on my own, I would chain up and drive through the pass. Not only do I think it's my job to do all I can to make the delivery as close to on time as possible, BUT ....I want to drop this load, get another and make more money.

I suspect they are none too happy about us sitting here.

On the flip side, my company DOES preach that you use chains only to get yourself out of trouble, not in trouble.

    What would ya'll do?

    Any thoughts, ideas, smart remarks??:biggrin_2556:

Follow the company policy. you might wind up out of a job for running on ice unless they approve it. It's not your truck or load. and being a new hire, they are watching every mistake. be cool calm and collected. When the roads open be ready to roll.

When you've got a season or two of winter mountain driving under your belt, then you can make that call. Right now, you're the student. Sit back, be quiet and learn.

You can also use the 'down time' to search and read posts on TTR about the dangers of winter driving in the mountains :)

Yeah, Boogies, you got to do it their way this time around. Me, I'd go, but I chained on Donner more times than I can remember. People make a fuss about chaining; I never thought it was a big deal. Sure, you get cold and wet, but then you get warm and dry.

The storm is supposed to blow through tonight (it's already clearing here on the west side of the mountains--we've got blue sky) and Friday-Saturday-Sunday should be clear, so this time tomorrow afternoon you'll be west of the Sierras. Hit the slots, catch a movie, enjoy as best you can. Cheers and Safe Trip. Take it easy coming down the hill.
