Currently employed in the printing business. I make about 45k a year, but my job depresses me. I work as a manager and have been at the same job for nearly 8 years now. 27 years old, single, not that many bills... besides rent and a car payment.

Trucking REALLY interests me. Not because of the money, but the fact that you’re being paid to drive. I’m just really scared to take the first step into the field. Kinda lost!

Have been looking at the program Roehl offers, I have no big rig experience and am kinda intimidated. Have a clean MVR and just looking for advice, thank you!

Go for it; it's not that difficult at all.
10's of thousands get a fresh start in life every year with trucking.
Can you pass a drug test? Roehl give hair follicle drug test.
Which state do you live in?

Wait until you are treated badly being told what to do and not given a time frame to expect a dock call and then sit and wait for a unknown number of hours for it.

Many people think about driving a big truck. Thanks to automatics, many can do it. But not everyone gets to do that for a lifetime for a variety of reasons.

Two thoughts, so you are prepared ---- got to add this because ... well just because ....

Trucking isn't for everyone, and many truckers are depressed as it is, just listen to them cry at the truck stops. Many of the newbies can't handle the responsibility and this is why there is a high turn over in some companies, others think this is all about freedom and the ability to do what they want. Let's not forget the truth about safety, this is one of the most dangerous vocations/professions around, as you are driving, the miles increase your risk of being seriously hurt or killed, a lot of drivers don't make it home.

I would really think you can find better employment that is safer and makes good money somewhere else, but if you are inclined to do this, don't be upset if you can't pass the simple road test or feel that you are screwed by the companies who hire you because both are very possible.

AND this site is great resource to learn, even from the negative comments like mine.

Stuck in a factory is better than being stuck in Why-Oh-Ming in the winter!

I've hauled paper and advertisement inserts from printing companies , all over the place, from California to Buffalo, NY.
Took a few loads to some newspaper printing company in Buffalo then reload nearby with Ocean Spray juice going to various places.

Dont be scared. Cant be scared out here . when u get scared driving a truck thats when ppl get hurt. U got to have balls to be a truck driver. Nothing wrong with being fearful and nervous, but scared is not an option.

Truck drivers are always worried that automated trucks will one day put them out of a job. Printing is probably one of the few industries where that's already happened. My first career out of college was working in the printing industry 40 years ago, and since then it's all but vanished.

Yeah I keep hearing about automated trucking... it is probably way down the road though... 10 years at the very least if not 20 or 30??
If so yeah that would suck you wouldn't need any truck drivers just people to load and unload.
I have been thinking of the same thing to get into trucking and have been exploring when/where/how I want to get my start. It is confusing and a big commitment especially to just leave a career that is solid and stable right now.
I will say I think all jobs have their downsides but you should be overall happy.

it gets better the longer you do it , tougher starting out no matter where you start out and either you can handle it or not ..... probably at least half cant figure it out. ... theres niches you can fall in too even with the worst of companies ... and its up to you find it .... you can make a good living just being a dumb truck driver but you can make a lot more being a smart one
