I was going to be hired with a company to drive a class b Truck, they said that they would train me/ do the road test in their vehicle. However after I go and get my permit and apply find out that they cannot hire me due to insurance (must be at least 23)
I go back to the DPS to get it upgraded to a class A so I can just go to a CDL school like I originally planned, but get told that until I finish a road test they cannot do anything with my license. So now i'm stuck with a permit for a class that is next to useless to me, There are no class B jobs that hire in my area. Furthermore I was told that I have 14 days from the time I was handed my permit to schedule a road test, time which is rapidly running out. I really don't want to pay 400+ dollars just to rent a truck class that I cant get work in only to potentially fail the test and be out that money.
Do I have any options here? Or am I going to be forced to rent a truck?
This is precisely why I shouldn't have listened to the people who were telling me just to get a B and stay local.
Stuck with learners permit what to do now?

Turn the permit back in and get a regular car license until you get yourself enough money together to go to a PROPER trucking school. A course of both class room and yard/road work with big trucks.

How long is your permit good for? Stick it out, let it expire, then go and get your class a?TequilaSunrise Thanks this. -
Just out of curiosity who told you that you only have 14 days to schedule a road test?

You have to have the permit at-least 14 days before you can schedule the skills test.. In most states your permit will be good for 6 months .So you can schedule after 14 days up to 6 months..TequilaSunrise Thanks this. -
14 days sounds off...
160 hr school is 4 weeks and you have to have it that long.
In WA, 14 minimum before you can test.
There is lots of bad information out there. You have to get better at deciphering or this is going to be the least of your worries.
Trucking is an analytical job that requires you to make decisions based on a set of data. There is more than enough exceptional information here to get into the industry.roadmap65 Thanks this. -
