I have heard some of the districts have instituted school zone areas. This is for drugs and fights and etc. Might be including firearms as well.

    Big Don Thanks this.

The State of Utah has their "Drug Free Zones" around schools. But to my knowledge, it does not apply to anything other than drugs.

IMHO, the school is wrong here. Also IMHO, the kid should have his arse kicked for not securing those weapons at home...

It really depends on the rules that the school has.

Why should the school be able to regulate a child for something that happens at night when away from school grounds?

Unless they are at a school sponsored activity, they shouldn't be able to. OTOH, if it IS a school sponsored activity, then they do have a responsibility to enforce their rules.

I expect this will go far as they are completely off grounds, unless there is a LAW or local ordiance that states that they can enforce school rules OFF school grounds they are in for a lawsuit. Thats like saying the school can enforce school rules at the store across the street because alot of their students shop there.

Y'know... the best illustration for this sort of thing was brought about by someone I really don't respect at all. The silly animations done in Micheal Moore's Bowling for Columbine, where people are running around, crazed with fear... seem to apply better to these antis than to MM's target group.

I can see the school admins running around screaming "Gun! Gun! Fear!"
