So, for those of you guys rocking those huge double eagles and mini mansions. What exactly do you haul and how does it stay profitable ? I imagine you get these questions a lot. I know it comes down to comfort. However, are you really limited to heavy hual/special haul or is that just rumors ?

I understand the weight of the truck is a huge factor, along with all the extra you can carry on board. For my curiosity and innocents sake, what's involved in driving, working one of those ?

I've seen the exact same rig parked in a motel parking lot in Berlin, CT. Looked like he was hauling exotic cars in a black, dry van.

I've seen a few hauling for Landstar and etc. Seems to be a unique market.

If you consider a 90" Double Eagle a big house, I can only speak for myself.

379 Pete/48' Reitnouer step, full of fuel, food, water = 35460# empty. Truck only, 24420# I put the bunk on in '05 and have managed to stay as busy as I want. Of course I can't run commodities that are inherently heavy.

There's a KW? with a 156" (I think) plus a Harley "garage" behind that, he's surely in a nitch of some sort.
FWIW, a few things some people overlook, front axle weight- I'm 12200 empty simply due to physics of leverage. That's why you see the big bunks with the big tires on the steer, they're getting the tire weight rating they need. Yes, some DOT will check that. Ground clearance- with the long wb everything between the drives/steer gets mighty close going over speed bumps and humps. I backed down into a dock once, you couldn't put your hand under my fuel tank.

    Hope this helps a little.

I love the big sleepers, condos etc. Saw a curtain trailer hook to a nice one yesterday.

    Me too !!!

    Thanks ,
definitely some good insight. Just seems like a ubknown mystical lart of truck driving. There must be a trick to it because I see plenty of them in service. The thing that gets me is the resale value seems to be extremely low.
